I got into the hound hunting a littler over a year ago for bear and coyote and enjoy every minute of it.
Just curious how many on this site also run hounds?
What do you run?
What kinda dogs?
Show off some of your setups!

Not keeping hounds anymore but still run deer alot withh friends on Saturday mornings - got friends that run bear dogs as well - I just like hearing em run these days, if I shoot somethin I gotta clean it.

Just grew up listening to em run and that is a great sound.

Run coons with the family dog so feeding her is easier than just having a dog strictly for hunting or just feeding her for a pet!!!!!

I run coonhounds. Currently i have 3 walkers. 2- 11yr old females and a 2yr old male. Been hunting with walkers for as long as i can remember. Strictly a hide hunter. To much BS in competition hunting. Knocked down 65 coon to these trio last season. Only hunt from opening night (Nov 10) till Thanksgiving. Rest of the time they are free runners around my yard.

Last season night before Thanksgiving my best female had a hunting accident. Lost a leg over it. Past few weeks a buddy (who works for a place that makes prosthetics) has been working on building me a prosthetic for her on his free time at work. Night before last was her first fitting. Still need a few minor adjustments yet and straps added to it and she will be able to stand on 4 legs again. Still not sure what were gonna do about the foot area on the prosthetic but leaning toward just adding a crutch tip to it.

Heres a pic of her first fitting and a better pic of the prosthetic itself...

Some days it seems like I have too dang many around. I have nine coonhounds and one basset hound. Two walkers, two blueticks, and five blue-walker crosses. I run coon in the summer just to kill time until lion and bobcat season opens back up. The basset is the wife's pet that I use to chase rabbits once in a while. She's to fat and old to ever get real close but it is fun to hear her go.

I personally never kill a coon or lion above the dogs anymore. I don't need any more trophys on the wall, I'd rather hear the dogs run so I let it live to chase another day. I have no problems with people that do shoot stuff out, just not my thing. Now during bobcat season, that is a different story.

As my avatar suggest I use to hunt cats with hounds. Mostly treeing walkers but have had some good walker/ bluetick cross breeds as well as one excellent Plott that would not run anything but cats I got from a bear hunter who was going to cull her.

My first excellent cat dog back in 1968 a walker/bluetick cross

A couple of good walkers in the mid 70's

And a couple of treed cougar
