Drive through Escanaba pretty regular. In fact was there last tuesday. Really nice piece of America. If you come up I75 though that Macinac bridge is pricey. It's 25 bucks for a semi not sure about cars. If you can come up from Wi 41 to 141 to 2 is a good road. But then driving over that bridge is pretty cool too. That lake is something everyone should see once in their life.

$4 for car, I think $2 per axle for trailer axles.

I'm going to make a fishing trip out of that one for sure. Sounds like a great vacation area.

HHHOOOOOOOWWWEEEE!!!!!!!

The fair grounds, and State Pocket Park are like a second home to me. Visited them and did seminars there for past couple decade. I can pretty much promise that this will be one of the best NTA meets ever. Count me in RIGHT now to put on a UP fish boil the likes you southerners have ever seen at the Tman feed! Ya'll boys and girls who never ate Superior lakers, whitefish and salmon are in for a treat eh!

Escanaba is a very nice area but don't be afraid to drive a lil ways away from Esky.. Lots to see and do.. Picture rocks is one of them and would be great for the family or if you need to make up some points with the wifey.. You also have Tahquamenon Falls Which is a lil bit of a drive from Esky but not to bad and you get to see some great country..

There is also many smaller falls and good areas for hiking or extending your stay camping and site seeing.. There is many good fishing areas also From brook trout in the smaller streams and rivers to World class Walleye fishing on Lil and big bay da noc. Even taking a Charter out on to Lake Mi for some of the best Salmon fishing in the U.P

If I had a choice of places to live in Michigan, it would be Escanaba. It's a beautiful town with the nicest folks I've ever met. I tried to move there years ago but the divorce would have been to expensive.

Esky is a great town but I would never move there.. I came to the U.P to get away from People so i would do the same i did last time. Find me a Nice lil town in the sticks that is close enough to go to a big town when needed but far enough away so it is quite..

Yeah, I didn't mean "in town". You don't have to go far from it though and you're in the sticks. I thought that would be a great selling point to the wife. Wrong again.

Seems they get farther north after every convention. I know they have to have a rep for western or mid western events, but wow, soon it will be in Canada !!

BB it is a long way from Tx. But there is water in Mi. Give you a chance to see some again. It really is a nice place. Folks are at least as friendly as in Tx.

IMO I would say weather plays a factor. How hot is it in Texas right now? I see your point tho. Not much happens in your neck of the woods.

From here to Lima Google maps says 3 hrs. 56 mins.

From here to Escanaba: 7 hrs. 38 mins.

I know which location I would rather be in at the end of July. Now maybe different if the NTA was held in January!

When the NTA decides where to hold a convention - one of the factors they consider is a trapping organization to host the event. It takes one heck of a lot of work to host a convention - just ask the guys in Minnesota.

I know this past year they didn't have a NE regional because no group stepped forward to host it. Just something to consider when you start criticizing the location.

I don't go north of the Mason-Dixon...

Plus, it will be well over 1,000 miles for me... I could order a lot of supplies for the gas just to get up there... not counting getting home...

Why would I want to support an organization that only has conventions in the upper 1/4 of the country??
