I am planning on putting some sets out for bobcat in the upcoming season but have i have never in the past. I have got a lot of good feedback of how to set and where but was wondering if anyone could suggest a good lure or two to try out. I believe someone told me the Pa season coincides with the early part of the cats mating season, any suggestions would be appreciated.

GH-II and cavens feline fix works great......but Locklears cat collector has to be one of the best cat lures i've ever used will also snagg the coyotes!

Carmans Circle Maker, Troups Magnum LDC, I have had luck with these two and anything with a good beaver castor odor to it. Also you can throw in some sets with Cat gland and I always add bobcat urine at my sets. Good Luck this year, I love trapping these cats here in PA.

Our cat season ends Jan. 6 and I don't believe they start breeding until February. I have caught them in fox sets with red fox gland and bait more than I would like and have caught them in cat sets with cat gland and bait. I'm no cat man by any stretch, but the gland / food combo has attraction. For most of the trapping season I would rather see a possum in my trap than a bobcat since we're only allowed one.

Asa Lennon's Bobcat Super-All Call...especially good going into breeding season. That is also when the cats should be the most prime. Also, a bit of skunk essence "misted" just above and beyond the set really helps. Tom

Didn't think you'd have very many cats in Berks county.good luck with them though.I'll be trying for a Pa cat this year with traps.Be heading a little north to where theres a better population.I have a few around but they run a huge area by me.I will be using John Grahams cat lures and some O'gorman.Probably pick up some Lennons also.I always have good luck with all his stuff

Try some shrimp for bait. Lots of cats in 3D.

northern part of 4C is right in my backyard. We don't have too many here.Better off in the swampy areas a little further north. Not to say you won't get one here, but you'll have much better odds 1/2 hr north or a little east into 3D

I've hunted in PA for many years in McKean county. I hunt one particular ridge near Smethport a lot that has some huge cherry tree blow downs on it. I have watched a cat for the last 3 or 4 years that comes up out of a huge laurel bed about 3 PM almost every day and lays out up on a particular blow down that is about 75 yards away from were I sit on a ledge. I see tracks also over around Eldred often.
So the cats are there,if it is near where you are trapping. Remember cats eye sight is one of their most important hunting aids. A partridge or duck wing hanging by the set will bring them close enough to smell your lure & bait. Cubby sets near a toilet or travel lane is about as good as it gets for cats. A little skunk mixed in with beaver castor with glycerine makes a good home made lure/scent. Deer liver if you have it is a good bait, along with the standard rabbit &/or partridge parts.
If you get a cat - keep the meat - as it is a super cat & canine bait.

Am I the only one who thinks Dobbin's Purrrfect is one of the best if not the best bobcat lures on the market?I caught ten here in
Georgia last year using this lure.I catch them every year on it.

Some skunk added to lures/scents works for cats in real cold weather.

I've caught 7-8 here in 4c in the last 4 years, either on a skunky lure or cr's. All had to be released, so hopefully this year I will be able to keep one of them. Had acouple caught in 4E also, harvested 2 of them in that unit. There is alot more out there then people think, some people don't even know we have them around this area, LOL.

What kind of habitat you PA guys look for to find bobcat sign?

I'll be down around the 2A (SW corner of PA) unit. I started scouting around high banks, rock ledges, and pine thickets. Haven't found any sign so I'm wondering if I'm focusing my search in the wrong areas.

Thanks
