Do any of you know what the price of seed will be this fall?

Seed was higher last season than anytime in my memory. I usually sell seed in the fifty dollar range and last year it had to be in about the eighty dollar range.

I bought from someone on trapperman last year and a different person the year before. I'm not sure who they were.
I hope to plant a pound or two every year until I start to get enough of my own seed. I read that it takes 4-6 years for the plants to start producing seeds?

Seng will produce some seed in it's third year and even some 2 year olds can have a seed or three on them.

Thanks don.
Looking back through my posts, I think Ohbuyer was my source last year. I would expect that some of you who have seed will advertise late this summer.

I planted 1/4 pound 2 years ago. I planted when the leaves in the woods were frozen, I raked up leaves and then spread it out and recovered them. Will i see any growth this years as this is the second summer?

I also have a question if you dont mind...my girlfriend put some seed in a baggie this winter and stuck them in the back of the fridge and they are sprouted now into small roots...should I plant them now? or fall time?

I am in Alaska so this is going to be a long shot but would like to see some grow,we have 50-65 temps any tips that might give them a chance? I was going to plant them under some alder bushes where they might have a bit of shade,we have plenty of daylight thats for sure.

jeff,,,,i think you are too far north for your seng to survive if planted outdoors.

You might have to put the seng in a big pot. You will have to bring it indoors in the winter months in your area. Some seng is grown in Canada and it lives durring the winter months. That is in the southern most part of Canada though.

Thanks Guys...if I do grow it in pots and let it die in the fall and bring it in, wont it start growing again?
suppose I could keep it in cool place so it winters properly,as we dont have enough sunlight to keep much of anything alive on the window.

I don't know how long it would stay dorment. If you can keep it where the temps get into the upper twenties or thirties, it may be ok. I don't think it can stand you severe winters or the length either one. My seng usually dies off by the middle to the last part of october and comes back up real close to april 11th and the come up date is usually within 2-3 days of the date. You could darn near set the calender day by the arrival of Ginseng.
good luck on your growing it and if you think of it, let me know how things go with it.

Thanks again..I guess I will try to get some planted in pots and I have a cold room where it stays around 35 degrees I can try to winter them there and see if that works.

we did have strawberrys make it through this winter and it was the coldest on record here so I will try to put a couple out side and cover them in the fall and hope we get snow early to help insulate and hope for the best.

we do have a late spring not much grows before the end of may, so I might be screwed there, but the long 24 hr days could catch up fast if its survives.

Thanks I will let you all know if they make next year.
