Here is a video to show you what it looks like when it is finished. There is a pile of waxed dirt on the Left and a pile of just dry dirt on the Right. Notice how the water is added to the bottom of the pile of dry dirt. As the water is added the to waxed dirt you will notice how the water migrates up the pile of dry dirt on the right from the bottom. This is a good test to check the effectiveness of your waxed dirt.

In freeze/thaw conditions you will find your sets with just dry dirt get froze in due to the same migration of water from the bottom.
