I use a lot of cubbie/walk-thru sets, I have to inorder to keep the stock (sheep and goats) out of the set...

With a normal walk-thru, I will catch every old gentle ewe and nanny in the country....

Im a fan of walk thru sets on well used trails..

Here is a toilet set. I use this set often when the situation calls for it. It has to be right on location because there's not a lot of visual stand-out to it from a distance. The trail, road track, etc. is where the trowel is laying on the left picture. Dig the hole straight down on one end and rake the dirt upwards toward the other. The picture on the left shows a close-up of the materials needed. They are brush, rocks, etc. for backing, fresh cat urine, cat droppings, and a good gland lure. The one on the right shows the completed set without the trap covered yet. Notice that the dropping is on the slanted mound of dirt. This will help protect it when rain comes. The urine is squirted where the small white X is on the hole. I usually put the gland lure right on the dropping or very close. I use this set often at the entrance to cage traps. I don't put a trap in front of it, I just use it to entice the cat to enter the cage.

I got some free time this winter too.

NOT BEING critical, just curious......those that use the "dead end cubbie"......I've not used them, with all you hear about a cat not backing up.......give them room to turn around.......obviously you've had success with these.

Again, not critical for a moment, just wanting to chat about this. Virtually all my cats are caught on a walkthrough type set.

They are wearing a #3 Monty by the time they decide to turn around!!!!!!!! haha...

Seriously, cats have no fear in being funneled and if they are excited or aroused about your set the will walk right in...Most areas that Bulletbox and I trap are sheep and goat ranches so if you set exclusively walk thrus you will catch a lot of ewes and nannies...The sheep, for the most part, will stay out of these...although they will be caught every once in a while.

I think on this set the cat has to commit to your urine, lure, bait...whatever you are using more so than a walkthru...They are committed to going to the source. On a walk thru they may want to walk thru the set up but not be committed to your attractor. But if you have the best lure down for your area the cubbies are deadly in our country.

hang a turkey wing 4-5' over it, or I paint white stripes on a vulture or crow feather, the cats don't care

I'd like to see some of your walk thru sets.I got a Pa tag for cats this year and these pictures are a great help to me.How far do you guys like to keep your traps from the back of the cubby

Mine are probably about the width of my hand from my main attractor (lure, urine, bait, etc)...Dont really measure just go off of feel...But just a guestimate would be about 5 inches or so...Need to set a few and measure with a tape to be exact...

I fully understand lots of cats are caught in 5 gal buckets for heavens sakes......about as dead end as it gets......cages allow cats to see through......some of these cubbies seem to have quite a bit of room in them......allow for a cat to turn around-mark the set....many folks comment on cats not wanting to back up...just looking to chat about it is all......we all have our own style in how we catch cats........stepping sticks is another topic with cubbies.....

Some sets I use stepping sticks some I do not...probably more of them I do not....Havent really noticed that one way works any better than another though....
