I know its pretty early to start a journal but it has to be made sometime so here we go.
Lately I have been sorting out my traps and planning everything for this coming season. I cleaned out my freezer and found a lot of beaver tails and feet.

I've been making some marten boxes also.

As far as I know they will be set on the ground with 120 Belisle's.

This week I'm gonna start gathering bait for coons I'll keep this updated.

well to be honest I've been getting ready since early winter lots and lots of plans but so little time

Today I was looking at two of my fisher skulls and I noticed something interesting

The one skull looks like it was hit by a car it's all bruised and the nose looks all bent the teeth are crooked it looks like it went through a lot!

It's very good to get an early start on things.
Usually I end up not prepared for some part of things. Get busy with something else forget about it.

But why on earth did you save the feet off the beaver? Bait?

The tails I understand, but feet?!

What has happened to the skull is a trap has fired and broken those areas. When you prepare it you will see the fractures and if over 6 weeks after an axident there will be so fusing of the plates.

But the nose is broken and teeth are broken and chipped to nothing almost and the trap got it a little behind the ears it looms like that fisher went through a lot!!

Well rendezvous is really good this year!
They have some really good demonstrations.

They also have a black smith there.

And some of the local taxidermists have displays set up.

Good to see that the TrapGuy Kris fjelsted is doing a beaver over his knee . He will be down to the Nationals this year.
How many people showed up?
With that skull sometimes the front of the trap catches those teeth. If you ever have time check some old skulls at the Museum of Man and Nature pre 1970's coin bear time and you will see the impact after that. They have the largest cOllectipn of wolverine skulls prepared

No I didn't even see Dave today.
Could I go to NAFA and ask for it?
And this year the numbers are way down not as many people came. Next year I would like to do my own demonstration!

and yes squirrelchaser I always like seeing Kris at these type of things every time i talk to him i learn something new. we were talking about the fishers i had caught this year and the neat thing is that i caught these fishers just a mile away from the place we were talking. but kris is a really nice guy to talk to and knows his stuff
