the whole mama bear protecting her cubs thing is pretty over rated as far as black bears go. Not to say that messing with cubs is the smartest thing to do. A piece of plywood with a square cut out of the bottom edge is a handy tool for releasing animals you don't want, plywood goes between you and the critter, square cutout goes over foot with the trap on it.

As i think about it TrapperMan that is a relative impossibility- show me a trappable area in PA without bears..... and i'll show you some oceanfront property here.

Beat me to it Asa, i also use a piece of plywood on a cub or a little cat. v notch walk it right up his leg till the trap shows and reach down and take it off. safest way for both concerned.
