when setting for muskrats do you guys and gals set you traps above or below rough water? and would you please tell me which place do you pefer. tahnks onehash

rough water as in riffles?

Set in the calmer water. Doesnt matter which end.

thanks sniperbbb what i was meaning in rough water was real rocky shoals in somewhat fast moving water.i will be trapping in the main portion of new river.

deep enough water so they are swimming...lot easier to get them to swim thru than walk thru with bodygrips.

Rough water is ok, as long as ther area they are stepping ( or swimming up) to isn't that much of a difference from the level of the river.

Make yourself a stepping stone with some sod infront of the hole (and place your trap on it).

Set the calmer water. Muskrats are not overly strong swimmers and instead of trying to battle a strong current alot of times they will travel the shoreline at the watersedge. This is where a few 110's will take them on a regular basis.

check out the points, mouths of feeder streams, and the eddies .... they all are great for rats !!!
