To you fellow trappers that make your own bait. I have a few questions for you. If you use muskrat, beaver, rabbit or fish or any other critter how do you do your bait. Do you leave the fur on or skin it and just use the carcuss. How big of chunks do you cut it up. Do you put anything else in with the chunks. How long do you let your meat render. If you use fish do you gut them or freeze and chunk it up and what size of chunks do you make.
This is off the bait topic but has anyone tried using house cat turds for catching fox?
Thanks for any input
Howie

I have done a good bit of beaver tapping and I found what works best is an old eaver lure bottle and when u catch a beaver squeeze all the juice from the castor into the bottle. After that cut the castor out and get all the little crystal like pieces from the castor and put it in the bottle. The older the lure gets the better it can't go bad. Now for fox, bobcat, and coyote, by far the best bait is a rabbit cut up. They aren't to difficult to get your hands on I freeze some from the winter when we kill some with our rabbit dogs. Also I do trap private land so sometimes I cut a big peice of rabbit with fur on it. It increase the odds of catching it by it being able to use sight as well as scent.

Ok, kill a rabbit, gut him. Then cut him in half so his rear end is separated from the upper body. Now go get a tree and wire the rabbit to it. Then set the trap below the rabbit and branches on the sides so it's like a tunnel for whatever you want to catch. Then when they try to get the rabbit the get caught.

Can't use animal parts in some states so check your laws.

Chunk or grind and taint a bit (or not) then add Dobbins Bait Solution---just follow the directions, it's easy.

Some leave fur on chucks and rabbits when chunking and others don't
