I averaged 101.69 on ours, had good grades on the fur, but bad color.

$97.00 for my SE marten, but I had a couple of Washington marten included that I'm sure brought the average down just a little. A high of $144.00 on a couple of *SEL XL XD-DBR. I had no XXL skins. Does anyone know what the "*" means?

111.39 before commissions on this winters marten. assume everyone above is too as I can't see any breakdown for commissions yet.
Guess it pays to pull hard. I don't go for the "Don't overstretch theory. I go for the length. My Feb March marten have plenty of fur to fill in the gaps.
I had a number of marten that I pulled hard to make the xxl size. Out of the 18 that I measured when boxing that I figured would make it -17 did. Where I needed to pull harder was on the borderline Large. I don't focus on them and I believe I could have gotten a few over that mark also. And the price difference is significant between xl and L. Wonder when we will find out final $$ after commissions.

It pays to have your marten boards marked with sizes. If you can pull a borderline marten into the XXL size you can gain 40 bucks for an extra half inch of fur.Make sure it will go at least a half inch over the line to allow for shrinkage after removal from the board.

FT I read your post with interest and thought about it a bit. I think I get it... those late season marten are heavily furred and there is no way you can over stretch them. I use to take a wet rag and pull on hides to get maxi length, maybe I better try that again.

Flesh the lip muscles off and pull the belly skin towards the back while it's on the stretcher but before it's pinned and that helps get the length out of them too.

I actually split the nose on every marten. It allow the end of the head to fold over backwards better when drying flesh out on the first go around. It gives you some length. The end of the lip pulls over the end of the board very well. I use a dry rag and pull/rub down the hide with a pretty firm hand on both sides. I put one pin in each leg first with no pull. I then put one pin in the base of my tail second - left and right from there. The part I worried about was my bellies seems to shorten in relationship to where it would normally end. I compensate by pulling the belly and pinning in the belly board. Then along with with the base of both back and front legs pulled to the belly for the first pin or two. It give the illusion of a longer belly. Kind of like the bobcat front legs being pinned forward. ;0)
I firmly believe it works for me. Not sure what a November marten would do with that handling.
But when I looked at the $$ breakdown between the Large and XL I immeditaly knew I hurt my average a bit. I did not ever work a hide hard to make the XL mark. I will in the future. I cut off all my lower lips

Oh ya. I know that my average is higher due to stitches. I don't send in damaged hides if at all possible. If a patch of hair is missing when I catch it for what ever reason. Pitch, rub, sore etc- It isn't when I ship it. I know that we have discussed this before but considering the color of my marten I am happy with my average.

I agree with FT on the sewing. I had an average of $108.50 until my SDG pelts sold. They were pitchy and I was lazy. Only got $64.00 for them. My bad. frown
I too cut off the lower lip.
Waggler- The * means a "labeled" skin. Now what "labeled" means in terms of grading I don't know. I had a few of those, too. Perhaps Ron or Wissmiss can help?
