Ours was built because my dad has Knee problems plus it is nice to be able to get inside of a shack and keep warm when it is cold and snowy out or even raining..

lol, if you are not a handicapped person, get out and stalk them, box hunting is just a lazy way to hunt. I get so tired of feed plot hunters on tv.

I guess that's why they're called shooting houses and not hunting houses.

The first ones we built were on skids. Basically I got some pallets steel was hauled on. They were 5 feet wide by 10 feet long and had 4x4s underneath. We built the blind on the pallet.

The reason we did this was because where I'm at the deer would cross the corn or bean fields in the morning and evening. Once the crops were out we'd slid the stands out in the corn or bean field and hunt from there. We only had a short hunt morning or evening, but it was better then no hunt.

After hunting out of those for a few years, we got the chance to hunt the woods where the deer came from near the river. The guy that owned the land was in his 80s so we put one of the stands on a flatbed trailer and hauled it down to the woods for him to use. Since then we've built 2 or 3 more, but these aren't moveable.

And what if you hunt an area where it's just not safe to stalk them. In our area the only woods are near the rivers or creeks, so everyone has to hunt in those areas. This means you concentrate the hunters in smaller areas. It's just not safe to walk around in some areas.

We have about 300 acres of riverbottom woods and have 4 or 5 hunters. If you get out to walk around it's not only dangerous, but you can mess up the other guys. I do admit my favorite hunt is the still hunt where you can walk up on your deer, and on weekdays when the other guys have to go back to work, I will hunt that way since I am the only one there.

While you and I may hunt by different methods, I don't see a need to complain about the way you hunt.

has anyone made one on a small hay rack or something with wheels? lets see pics! i have been wanting to make a portable stand on a small frame hay wagon or a corn wagon or something of the like. then when the farmer has his corn picked, i could pull it into the field and leave it. or move it wherever i want. any pics of something like this?

I am sure some will complain and comment that this isnt a deer stand and blah blah blah. Yes I have ladderstands, lock ons and several climbers. Occasionally I like to get out of the wind and rain and/or have someone's company for a all day stand, expecailly my fathers. I thought the pics might help someone who would like to build one.

I spent some of the day today working on this stand again. I thought I would include a few pictures if anyone is interested in some ideas. Like I mentioned before this stand is going up in the woods in a bit of thicker cover and I plan on bow hunting out of it at times so I needed some bigger windows to shoot from. I made the windows a two part deal so I could close it up during rifle/crossbow season and to keep the weather out when not in use. I also lowered the windows a bit from my previous designs. The bottom of the window is 36 inches high. The windows measure 32" wide x 36" high. The Top window is 2' and the bottom is 1'. The top window opens outward with a string hooked on a nail on the inside keeps it open. When finished the bottom window will be plexiglass on hinges opening inward and down out of the way. On top of the windows on the inside all the way around will be 6" shelfs anchored atop of the 2x2's. The shelf is the unpaited piece in the pictures. These two walls pictured make the slanted roof to shed water. These two walls I framed with 2x2's except for the one on the bottom. I used a 2x3 there to give me a larger board to anchor to base. The other two walls dont really have any framing except for bottom board to anchor to the base, a 2x2 for the top window hinges to anchor in and a shelf to rest on. These two unframed walls anchor into the 2x2 on the other two walls. Once they all tie together and the roof is secured they are very sturdy.

This a picture of both walls. One window is full open for archery situation and the other I have it closed for rifle a scenario. One side of the slant is 7 ft and the other is 8 ft.


This is a picture of the bottom of the wall. That is a 2x3 that will be screw threw the plywood base and into the 2x8 frame work with 6" deck screws


I will have 4 of these 6" shelfs. One on each wall. They will be 6' tall so I wont bump my head and items can be placed out of the way


On this stand I plan on putting a bigger roof on it than what my other two have. I am going to have a two foot over hang all the way around

A week or so ago I finally got motivated and got the base of the stand erected. The walls are on location and waiting to be put on the stand. Hopefully I will get them and the roof on very soon. I have been telling my boy that is his stand and he is really proud of it.

Now that my daughter is going to be hunting with me I wanted to provide a blind that we can spend all day and night in. We will be heading to the blind on the firearm opener at midnight. We will set the alarm clock and open the windows just before shooting time.

I watched 5 bucks today while I was building the blind. One 6/8 point was 20 yards from my while I was useng the screw gun. I hope we can get one on the opening day so I can get back to trapping.
