1st question for you before they get started, what kind of equipment do you have access to? I'm new as well but I'm sure this will help guide what kind of stuff you are able to do

a 6 gallon pool clorine bucket and a duffle/sea bag you have a packbasket I still use a fair number of 24-30" rebar stakes I buy the rebar used from a salvage yard and the unplated washers from the local fastenal and make my own stakes I also use the rebar and make "drowners" for beaver

In the wood shop you should be able to make your own stretchers, mink or weasel boxes, muskrat floats, wooden stabilizer stakes and pans for your body gripper traps.

I would like to know how to make the Connie pans!

You can make your own DP's
Stakes
Multi purpose tool. For hammering/digging/pulling
Fur hangers
Mink/weasel/coni boxes
Pack basket 5 gallon works great with side bags and straps
Sifter
Skinning rig

You can make just about anything. You just have to plan ahead. T-man threads and you tube will help you with ideas and how too's.

Hope this helps

Been making drowner weights for the river all day. Cut old chain into 6" lengths and fill coffee cans with concrete mix. Add the chain and you got drowner weights. I take them and stash them on the river when fishing, canoeing or scouting and I do not have to haul them during trapping season and they are ready when I need them. The smaller ones I use for trotlines.

The larger cans weigh about 12#. I usually tie a small spiece of rope to them to carry them and use quick snaps to hook drowner cables to them for beaver. Or just wire to the hook if using 14 or 11 ga for coon and mink.

I use either 2 or 3 depending on the depth and drop off.

What I use and it works for me. For Beaver I use 3/32 cable 8 to 10' long. I make drowner locks out of 1/2" x 1" angle cut to 3/8' wide. I attach them to my weights using double ended snaps similar to what is on a dog lead. For coon and beaver I just use wire and the same locks as discribed earlier. I use t-bar stakes to anchor at the bank. I hope this helps. When using wire make sure you wrap it several times around itself and secure it well. With alot of weight you can pull it loose trying to pull your weights from deep water and strong current. The last thing you want to do is pull it loose as it will straighted out and you will loose your weights and could loose your catch.
