I have always just used buckets but bought a guy out and got a brand new 20" wood packbasket in the deal. Most of my trapping is from a four wheeler but I do have a couple spots that I walk in from the road. I'm trying to decide whether to keep it to use or sell it. Other than looking cool, what are the advantages over a bucket and what kind of accessories come in handy? Pics would be great also.

I don't haul trapping equipment far, so I have no need for one. However when younger I did. And in my view there isn't anything more irritating then the harness on a packbasket . I don't know how long they've been around but it's been a long time. And they still have the same old harness.
Not too long ago someone posted on here about using an ALICE pack with a plastic trash can insert.
More money for sure,,,but if I were hauling stuff in, I would most definitely research those ideas. I looked at MOLLIE packs as well,,they didn't seem to be as user friendly for the trapper.
I looked at freight packs too. Jury still out on those.

I think I'm going to just hang on the man room wall and hang a fox tail out of it with some old traps for decoration.

They are handy in certain situations.With a machine the big advantage is you can carry more stuff since it is on your back.I don't use them anymore I bust them up to quick.I have an old one that was my grandfathers that I still use ice fishing,that's about it though,I don't want it to end up damaged...

Good to have a critter carrier in the basket too .you might want to clear coat the basket to protect it from the weather . I just get a small bucket for inside the basket to hold the lure and baits , I carry a small bucket to hold the dry dirt . Just put the sifter in the dirt bucket so you can blend in the dry dirt . When I first dig the trap bed I save the top dirt to blend . It would be nice to have a bag on the side of the basket to hold clean dry cotton gloves for inside the rubber glove . Good idea to take off you rubber gloves before you add lure or bait so your not getting lure on your bedding gloves ,

When I did use one I bought a couple of those cheap cloth carpenters aprons and tied them onto the basket for lures,bait,cotton balls.They work on buckets too,several pockets for around $10.
Those big clips you can get for closing potato chip bags work good for clamping gloves onto buckets or baskets too...

Here's what I use. Just a tall kitchen trashcan inside a military duffel bag. It isn't the greatest, but it works OK-

I do something very similar, but with a military rucksack (ALICE Pack) instead of a duffle bag. It's a bit sturdier because it has an actual frame on it, and there are pouches and pockets on the exterior for holding different things. The duffle bag only has that one pocket and it's not really good for holding anything. You'll get more depth on the duffle bag than the rucksack, but otherwise I think the ruck works better. I also just have a plastic trash can secured in the main compartment of the ruck.

Here is a link I watched to make a my "ALICE" trapper back pack. Cost me $14 off ebay for the pack, $5 for the can fro the Dollar Store, screws and nuts I had plenty of. Took me about 1/2 hr. Came out nice, lots of pockets on the outside. Looking forward to giving it a go in the fall.

I use a ALICE pack. Just dropped my packbasket inside. Fits like they were made for each other. I dont understand how pack baskets have continued to sell over the years with no improvement to the harness.
