I never have used snares. I want to learn how to use them and effectively. I think i know the general sets for them and i have alot in mind for that, but tips are welcome and appreciated. I would like to learn how to build them and the tips for making them efficiently functional. pics or videos would be great too. maybe even some catch pics.
thanks,
Kendall

Kendall, being from MO. cable restraints are required for use on land. You must take a cable restraint class and get certified.

No matter what regs you have to follow if you are allowed snares learning to ID and locate furbearer travel trails is a good skill to work on. Following trails or snow tracks(if you get it) helps you see and learn to anticipate where/how/when trials are traveled helping you to begin looking for those higher percentage locations for your snares. Successful catching for most is as much or more fieldwork as trap setting. If you KNOW where an animal is going to pass you just have to be patient enough to let him. Of course setting the proper snare effectively is important but being on location is more. Good luck.

There are a number of snaring threads on this forum that have more info than many books and DVD's combined.

I've used snares for 20 years, mostly for cats and can tell you that Gregerson locks are the way to go. Kills them so fast that usually the set is practically undisturbed. And there is very little edema. (Is that the right word?) Swelling and fluid anyway.

Check out all the threads started by LT Grey about snaring. Everything I have learned about snaring I learned on here. I caught 11 coyotes out of the same 30 acres last winter with nothing but the knowledge I have gained from reading posts on here.
