We all have these and I thought I would list my results from this year and see what kind of numbers you guys have. I trap mostly on a large deer hunting club and I trapped two weeks this year (1 in Jan & 1 in Feb) and the first two sets were set both times because they were close to my staring point. The area consists of 90% hardwoods, 5% pine, and 5% clearing under two cross country highlines and small food plots. During the two weeks I had approximately forty different sets out but caught a good portion of the critters in three sets as follows:

1. Two track trail just off main road that goes to a food plot - standard dirt hole
a. possum
b. gray fox
c. gray fox
d. bobcat
e. coyote
f. coyote

2. Highline road on ridge top with a lot of briars - dirthole under carhood size rock about one foot thick
a. coyote
b. bobcat
c. coyote
d. bobcat
e. bobcat

3. Highline road on ridge top with briars and tall grass - standard dirthole
a. bobcat
b. bobcat

You're probably thinking wow that is a lot of remake catches but I think the key is that I use drags on long chains. They are prehooked on the briars and/or bushes and usually just go the chain length back into cover. I think this adds attraction yet preserves the original set for easy remake. There are some natural gas wells on this property so this method also gets the critters off of the road edges and mostly out of sight from the well checkers.

High percentage sets are most likely on a natural crossing of some type where not only local animals move through but wanderers and nomads move through.A funnel would be a better word really for it.I bet if you look at a aerial photo of those spots you will see why those spots produce. Then when you move into a new area look at a aerial of that and set similar features. You can almost plan a line on new property without actually setting foot on it.The same with deer hunting, once you know what to look for you can pick out stand sights without setting foot on it,barring some major activity like logging or getting there and finding sign someone else is already hunting it...
