F1 works for me, personally it's all I use with the exception of a few of the 1216 larger bodygrips I spray painted .... black for foot traps and the brown for bodygrips and snares ..... the black is much more user friendly vs the brown due to the pigment but really no problem, perhaps a extra dip or two to get the desired coverage .. F1 is a trap coating not a dye
I put this stuff to the test ... I have dipped raw new straight out of the box traps with oil on them, I have removed oil and then dipped, I have slightly rusted and dipped .. I also took "dirty" traps, power washed and re-dipped.. all took the coating and all caught fur ... while putting Formula One to the test , each of these methods after being dipped the traps were allowed to dry no more than a couple hours and they were put in the ground ... the first check I had fur waiting on me ... yes, you can dip at noon and put'em in the ground at two ... but if done ahead of time, pre season dip, let dry as long as you can, then apply another two dip allowing a good dry time between dips .. the longer allowed to dry the harder the finish ... I personally have not used any product that a coon or similar critter cant polish off to some degree or entirely .. if I want to or need to pull traps and rotate/relocate I feel fully confident in re-dipping and putting them right back out on the line asap
a couple years ago, I was trapping beaver out of an impoundment , dredge spoils from a river bridge project were being pumped into this impoundment , I had not removed all of the beavers and was asked to suspend my task until they had finished pumping into that particular impoundment .... I had mb-750's scattered about, instead of pulling the traps I just tripped them ... long story short the water level rose more than expected due to the extended pumping .. it was almost three months before I was able to access the area and retrieve my gear ... keep in mind, these traps were subjected to salt/brackish water for almost three months .. the traps had minimal rust on them, mainly around the jaw rivets and the contact areas on the levers/jaws .. I assume so due to the moving parts and exposed bare or less coated steel .... the quick links and untreated 1/8 cable was in poor condition and heavily rusted while the traps were in decent shape ........ on another occasion a pond that I trap annually, while setting one year later I come across a 330 laying along the shoreline where I generally park, suppose my oversight and it just got left behind .. just laying on the ground for a year and by looking at it you would have never known it had been exposed to the elements for a year
overall I'm pleased with Formula One, it works for me and I will continue to use it
