Been out bear guiding. Did a lot of face plants in the mushy snow, but only about ten percent of the face plants the clients did. Chechakos grin April is a good time to trap beaver here under ice or coming out of holes or open leads, but bear guiding pays better. If I am going to guide in April, gonna have to pre-mark lodges in November to trap them in March, which pushes firewood back to February, No rest for the wicked!

I caught this three legged beaver this spring, but not before I caught his missing foot the previous year!! This guy was a survivor, had lots of scars to prove it. He would have won the three legged race!?!?!

Ended up with 8 this spring. It can cover a lot more country in the late fall, so will hit it then with a lot of traps.

Yeah I took eight too but only six were recovered. A black bear ate one out of the trap and a wolf stole the , the stand and broke the cable....he was decent and left my id tag and a piece.of cable to salvage.

Are you boarding or hooping? Oval or round ??? Just curious as to what others do. I h AV e been bording them round. I did several last year case skinned with the tail for wall hangers and they came out great. I am a non traditionalist. whistle

I ended up shooting 2 beavers this spring in the river that runs through the village. Were pretty far north for beaver, I dont think they are native to our area so we try to keep them under control. They seemed small, 20 lbs or so. I couldnt get to this website for about a month, anybody else have that problem?

I ended up with 37 which i am still stretching. They were really fat this spring which is unusual down here, must of had something to do with the weird winter. Several places i trapped i think they had been getting out on the bank during the winter.

I was wondering if anyone tans beaver tails? If so, what is the process. I remember T4E saying you can place them in a bucket of water with some alder or hemlock boughs and let the acids do the magic??/?\?? Anyone have any suggestions for a home tan on beaver tails?

I do eat it straight off the tail, but yes it was for black oil. I also rot it down to use in snow holes
