They've popped up here as of recent! Ate a few, but I think they were a little premature. I found most of them around river bottoms. smile yumm.

My daughter bought a house on 40 acres last fall, and the Bride and I were over there for Easter. Her woods are FULL of Leeks. There are, literally, 10's of thousands of them. Just walking in her woods stirs up all manner of onion smells. I'm hoping the morels are as thick! Best part....neither my daughter, or her man-friend, will eat fungus, Both will, however, pick them for me!!

Jeremy, in my neck of the woods you find leeks/ramps in rich woods. By rich I am referring to the soil. Around here your more apt to find them in the same forest type where you find lots of Trilliums,or, if your a morel hunter, where you find the bigger "white" morels. Here that usually means a woods with lots of Hard(Sugar) Maple. I would think Pa. would be the same...anyone else able to articulate it better?.... I sometimes have a hard time getting a point across in print, but it basically means head for the woods with the best soil. They aren't as common here in woods that are mostly pine/spruce, because they are able to grow on soils that are less fertile, and more acidic.

Jeremy, The ramps here are ready for eating now. They should be easy to find if you stumble into the right area.

see what green onions go for at the store. You dont want to sell them for nothin but you dont want to price yourself out of a sale.

Keep an eye on them and in late summer look for the seed heads.
Early fall dig a few up and look at how big they are!

Make sure you have the right thing with an onion smell to it.
