I do,Don't know if it helps in the sale,but I do think it makes the fur denser on the back.

I do also, I flatten the tail with a window screen then tack the screen to the board.

I believe that NAFA recommends pleating the tail. They also suggest doing it on otter as well.

However, if you are thinking of tanning the pelts yourself or selling the pelts to people who will be tanning them, you should strongly consider stretching the tail for length and pinning it flat.

My experience with tanning pelts that have pleated tails has not been good. Increased slippage and they just don't look as nice.

I don't pleat anything.Otters and coons I just flatten using plastic eave trough screen,then staple the screen.I don't pull the tails for length.I do pull the legs and back for length,then staple.
