I put 580 miles on mine this year and got 17mpg on about every tank no matter what i was pulling or the speeds travelled. Storing mine for the season today. I love it.

Well, I snow-checked one and am considering another. Had a bit of an ordeal to get to some snowed-in traps yesterday and was thinking the whole time how nice it'll be to ride to 'em...

Dave did you get the expedition with the ace 600 156" track? I am sooo jealous.

holy cow.
Torn I am. I have access to a skidoo swt 800 4stroke model used in St Marys but have had my eye on the expedition ace 600.
Be money ahead with the low miles 800 but but. Just seems overkill although I have heard nothing but good about them. And you can see the motor when you open the cowling. ;0)

I am guessing the expeditions with the long track will be very tippy? Anyone that rides one wants to chime in here? Len, I personally would go with the 800 with what you pull around, but again, jmo on that.

it is a 154 inch track, and it is not tippy to ride. It is a little tough sidehilling in the tussaks, but all machines are, I tightened my front shocks this week so I will see if that makes it a little better. Your ski stance is still right about 40 inches.

THe nice thing about that longer track is when you do feel like your going to tip, give it some gas and it "rights itself". I have not tipped it over yet, and my old one would have tipped numerous times by now with all the tussaks and sidehilling.

O and the ACE engine is by far the best pulling machine I have ever owned. Everyone who has one is super impressed with its towing ability because it is geared differently. You hardly even know you are towing a sled, even when hauling wood.

I picked up a used 2009 Expedition SUV with the V800 and man is that a difference from the old bearcat. I went out with a buddy that has a skandic with the 600 sdi motor, he burned three times the fuel i did. It's a big heavy pig but it climbs like a goat and is pretty quiet too.

I think FT would be happy with either. The gas consumption might be more with the 800 SWT, but not by much, and to already be $$ ahead, that's the way i'd go. The ACE is a really nice machine, but the 800SWT is also pretty nice!! Plus you can work on that engine...or at least loook at it. smile

16" sport model I am with northway I don't think the ACE 600 would be quite powerful enough for the 20"

My brother in law was a skidoo dealer and has very extensive knowledge of motors, etc. He said he would never buy and ACE in the WT or SWT. Just not enough horses there. Since you can't get the 800 in WT or SWT anymore, I would go with the etec in either of those sleds if I was snowchecking one.

Northway, guess I don't follow the theory there. You could gear a 5hp
briggs and stratton to where it would spin the track on a SWT. (it wouldn't blow you hair back going down the trail of course). Point is
it seems they would be geared according to the power band. Wouldn't you just trade off speed for power to the ground when you drop from an 800 to a 600?

Spek, I guess you are right, they could gear it down, but then you lose any kind speed if you are on trails, etc. It didn't make a lot of sense to not offer it in the 800 anymore, but that is what skidoo did. I'll go with power any day.

Okay thanks. I agree, there is definitely areas where speed is desirable.
Not as important here though as maneuverability and low end torque.

This is the conversation I wanted to hear. Much of it as I have been hearing. The 600 is not suitable for the swt and not to mention the frame issues the new machines are having. The yetti ll 800 is supposed to be pretty built compared to the new frame.
Fish I guess I thought you had the Tundra. I don't want to go down that road. Just too tippy. I like to zone out and look around when I travel down the trail. ;0)

How much is a snow checked Expedition ACE 600. I was thinking over $12000. That is some serious cashola. Have to have a good year to pay for it. Not to mention have some profit. Could be done.

My snow-checked Expedition Sport ACE was $9650.

I wanted something more than the Tundra and less than the Skandic, so the Exped seemed right.

My main deal was the ACE. I want something quiet, and that is more important to me than anything else this time.

We'll see how it does. I could have used it the last couple days...can't get in to some places I want due to snow.
