Wow, that's really cool seeing those live wolves. I've only seen a few in my life and most of those were in Canada and WI.

Your hunter's wolf has really nice color.

That is an awesome run down of what happened. Great photos as well. What kind of damage had the cat done to the caribou. Was it focusing on the neck area. What looked to be its strategy for a kill? Looks to be pretty bloody by the neck. Multiple wounds from claws, bites, one bite. That is darn interesting for sure. Hey we will see you at the fling.!!

Went and talked with the biologist at F&G about our radio-collared wolf. He informed me this male was tagged at 2 &1/2 years old and collared a couple years later. He was 8 years 10 months and had been in 3 different packs before hooking up with a cagey black female and starting their own pack. Craig told me the pack usually contained 7 to 8 animals and had a small range. He also said I had 5 different packs in the area where I trap. Pretty cool to get a background on an animal harvested. Oh also got my check from NAFA. I averaged $132/marten and had 5 of them go for $170. I LOVE TRAPPING! See ya at the ATA Auction and the Fling.

Went out on the line for a couple days after the Fling. -20 in the morn and 0 in the days. Spent most of my time digging #9's out of the drifts. Some of them, I hadn't seen since December. The lynx and wolverine were everywhere. Coming out of the woodwork. Didn't realize I had that many lynx out there. Cut some firewood and found a fresh wolf kill. I ran them off the kill without knowing it. Looked to be around 10 or more. Had a lite load goin in for a change.
Weather coming in fast
Top of RMC, notice the wolf trail coming down
A frest kill
They killed a yearling calf at the base of the mountain in the spruce. They pretty much ate it in one night. It was still thawed. I howled to no avail. I didn't bother setting up any snares. Lazy I guess. The lynx killed caribou from last week was just a stain on the snow. Ravens and yotes it looked like. Hauled the lame Bravo back to town. Week of work and back out to play. Need to haul the rest of the lumber out for the shed and the IT'S PLAY TIME. Gotta love the spring time in Alaska.

Awesome pics, I need to try building myself a shelter out the country to run a trap line. I've been trapping within 8 miles of town and gotten 14 lynx and one wolverine. Probably would be more productive if I trap farther away were there are more furs running around.

Well went out and pulled a bunch of wolf gear, hauled out a couple loads of materials for a shed, took Alaskan Trapper with me for the ride. We had a blast, weather was great and still lots of snow. Wolves made a kill down from the cabin. Didn't bother to set it. My #9's were all exposed due to the heat. We covered a lot of beautiful country and put the wide tracks to the test going over a couple passes. I got a load of firewood put up and picked up a spruce burrel I'd been looking at all winter. I see a couple coffee table in it. I got all the otters put up and pretty happy with the put ups. They were a little hard coming off the boards. Got 2 fox left to board and I'll be done for this season. Get everything put up for the Nafa auction. Looks like may get one more trip out and pull the rest and do a bit more playing.

Made it back from the final trip of the spring on a sled anyway. The Skidoo let me down. The ol faithful Polaris was off the bench. Not sure what happened. Ran across the river and back empty to check ice conditions and backed up to the trailer to hook up to the sled. And it wouldnt do anything, checked fuses, keys, batteries, connections everything and anything to no avail. Back to town, picked up the Polaris and back at it. Drug trusses and beams out in the rain, made to the cabin at 1am. Beautiful weather, 55 degrees. The snow and trail was leaving fast. Spent a few days messing around and figured I'd better skidattle. Picked up another huge burrel and floated down river to trail. Kinda glad I had the polaris. Ended up running alot of dry ground on the way out pulling a heavy sled which didn't help. Took 6 hours to come out 40 miles. Ended up leaving my wide sled and gear and my new burrel at Stan's. The Tanana opened up and didn't wanna risk the sled dragging me down. Did some mighty scary water skipping on the crossing. Had a great, safe and productive trapping season this year and am excited for next season. Thanks for all the help, compliments, criticisms from all the brothers and sisters on TM. Been great and now ITS BEAR SEASON! Good luck and be safe. Last trips burrel
Final load to the cabin
As the trail flows
The Canyon, notice the high water mark on the big spruce. That's scary
