LT, may I ask how you rig up your footholds for beaver?

Could y'all go into some detail with this?

I know some people use drags and looooong heavy chain with their footholds. Like 15-18 ft. of it. Never done it myself. I would like to hear more on this too!

Beaver traps are on 15 ft of #2 twist link chain heavily ( 2-double) swiveled on a D-ring/Base plated 4 coiled laminated trap.
This is staked right by the set w/ a 18-36" T-bar, depending on soil condition. I do them all that way!

I used around 15' of cable last year and yes the beaver was sitting on the bank as if it did not have a care in the world.
Everything changed when Mr. Beaver saw me coming. Imagine a beaver on land running around on 15' of chain or cable. At one point I felt like I was playing jump rope.
For me I will run a drowner or body grip. lol

I am partial to the MB750 and the CDR (largest spread we can use in WI) that being said I run plenty of #4dls and #4 cs for beaver. Target front feet with these. I sure do like the Paws-I-trip style pans on the dls.

How well would this work on a short chain with a double swiveled trap? By short chain i mean afoot or less. Given, that i'm running double and triple swiveled traps....

You'll either get a lost beaver and/or lost trap. Running 30" stakes or better may help but I have seen 25lb beaver yank 24" stakes that I have had on coon drowners.

Agree with that. You do NOT want a beaver on a short chain, UNLESS he is in a trap set up on the bank, even then I would want my coyote equipment, which is heavily swiveled.

I'd rather pack #2 bridgers than them heavy things. They still gotta hit the pan no matter the jaw spread

Had a beaver in a snare couple years ago on the bank that had been covered by a bobcat-I want mine covered by water at the end of a drown rod. Or in a channel in a 330

X2,I run all my footholds for beaver on 7' of kinkless chain,3 swivels and a rebar for a stake, I stake'm clear up on the bank,if you get that beaver out of the water he don't get chewed up by the others and I believe he wears himself out more so than he does in the water.....B.....
