set up on brush lines or thick hedge rows. I usually use dirt holes or blind sets under fences. You can use a lot more guiding then you can with reds. They dont seem to be as selective for lures. I caught most of mine on Pro's Choice and a few on Gusto late in the season.

I caught 4 this past year in a few weeks. I don't know if it was dumb luck, but I had a lot of luck with Jack Mackerel and I even used a dead bird for one of them. I used a dirt hole set with red fox urine sprayed on the backing of the set. Hope this helps.

I usually catch mine on deer trails in the woods or on overgrown rock fences. Caven's just mice seems to bring them in during the winter.

When using Gusto or any loud smelling lure it needs to be way down the dirt hole. Grey's just love to roll in crap that stinks.

Make them stand on there head to get to that wonderful smell and you will catch more Greys and have less sprung traps !

Just Mice as bait and Minnesota Grey gland lure are a favorite of mine before Fisher season opens. Once Fisher are fair game I use nothing but Gusto !

You should find them in the timber. Move away from the fields and hit trails or edges next to timber or thickets.

lmao k9w, that oughta make them easy to find, ill set in the only stand of trees for a hundred miles probly catch two dozen out of those five trees lol,

thanks for all the input guys, im thinking ill make a DEEP dirthole in some timber? is timber the key? ive got a bunch of crp prarie grass ground, would the tall grass suffice in place of timber?

ive seen some caught in cage traps on here, i have a few cages, i also have lots of 1,1.5, and #2 traps, cant use snares in illinois, but whats best for use on them?

also, is there a bait or lure that seems to draw greys specifically? or at least a high percentage of the time, not looking for a magic bait or lure, just what they seem to prefer, and is there any bait to stay away from?

Were I am from in Maryland I caught alot of greys..they love bobcat gland lure.....I stumbled onto somthing that turns there cranks....I used some Badger Gland lure and they seem to like it...but don't use very much as greys like to roll..I use a small amount about the size of a BB...seems to turn there cranks

there are no baders here so I think they really try to see what is making that smell

More than anything else, I have found that by using guides at your set....any set, will help you take more greys. I have used 3 sticks at sets...sticking up about 1" around my traps! Regardless of the set or lure used, that has helped take more greys than anything. Greys are at many times, much like bobcats.

All my grays have been caught mostly on gray fox lure and grey fox urine from rp outdoors. They were all caught near deep thick woods and underbrush. I also use something visual. Usually a animal bone or a brick. I always use food lure in the bottom of my hole. So at all my sets I use food, lure, urine. Hope that helps.

I generally don't take pictures on the line but this is fairly typical Grey Fox territory. One will never "see" many Greys. They are a more recluse animal with a smaller range, IMHO. This double is in plain step-down dirt holes, no backing or guiding. The red is caught in a lured set. The grey was caught without lure at all. Just the bare hole. These sets produce fair numbers of both. It's a good location. It's probably safe to assume the red was caught and helped attract the grey. These sets were made the day before this catch and the picture.
