a great weekend with snowstorm.. i hope he can post pics of some of the tracks he found as my camera crapped out again on some pics?? so odd that a few pics just dont download??
the sad part is that all my otter traps did not connect. the ones over holes in the ice all had hard ice now. that and the creek has been dropping lots so it has large shelf areas in the banks.. over 7 miles of creek i only saw 5 places they came up (might have been more that i did not see)
the last time i was out before the ice dropped i found way more holes.. but i reset what i could and only time will tell now i guess. like everything else just keep trying and learning...
another hard pill to swallow was part of the crown land i trap on (crown land is public land) has been sold private so i cant trap that area.. thats not that bad but it is the land i need to travel over to get to my line.. so i had to spend 2 hours busting trails from a different area to get in..
all the more reason for me to buy some land in the next year or two
but we did get in and set another 25-35 marten sets.. most poles sets or natural cubby sets on the tree. the sets on tree is great as i am trapping in some areas that snowmobiles travel and i dont need them screwing around with my traps, and that set sure hides a trap great.. this is my first time doing lots of the pole sets and wow i love them.. they sure set quick. only thing i will change is to use a piece of 1"X1" wire mesh to wrap over the bait to keep the birds from pecking it loose.. i dont care if the whisky jacks peck at it because i believe that only helps to bring the marten in the area.. but i need the meat to stay on the pole and wires just dont do it that great.
