Whos trapped them?
Do they stop moving when it's cold out?

High 20's. This guy asked me to catch them, I have not seen them but he says he has them. I set some 220's on well made paths from the pond over the levy, nothing has walked through them yet.

Traps are set Kirk, I guess I'm doing something wrong.
There's not much out there on nuteria. What do I look for? Should I bait them. I saw somewhere they like apples.
Ive had the trails guarded with 220's for 4 days and nothing.

Iv never used bait myself on them but Iv got a friend who uses sweet potatoes for them as for what to look for guard the trails like you have done and look for places where they are coming up on the bank to feed if your not seeing nutria when you there durring the day I would think there probly arnt as many there that many there in open areas around here you can usually see them swimming and sunning themselves durring the day

look for droppings, they leave them at all places they hold up on, banana shaped, about two inches long and dark green to black. find their droppings and look for places close by to set on

Hey there,
I'm glad someone else out there is trapping these things grin When a county I trap in had a bounty on them this past year, I trapped quite a few. My favorite sets are channels with #280 BG's , blind trails with #220 BG's, and any other set that will catch the mink, coon, and muskrat that I'm after. They die extremely easily with a sharp tap to the top of the skull. Here in Oregon, and especially the Willamette Valley, temperatures commonly get down into the 20's and the nutria don't seem to mind too much. They have a decent coat around here. Please catch all you can, as they're an invasive species and we'll never run out of them. If you have any other questions, please just let me know.

they will have bank dens somewhere sometimes they are half under water if legal they produce fairly quick apples and havaharts work as well as sweet taters I have also put a piece of apple on a coni trigger I use a lot of 160's and 220's with newish springs a lot of them never make it off the coni supports

Like mentioned set blind sets on trails an conis on their slides into the water. If there is a good field of grass close by they will be going to that no doubt. Look for trails running to there. My belief is they are the dumbest animals so catching them shouldn't be difficult. Don't over think it with nutria. I've never needed to bait but apples and carrots would work well. This is a set it did, as you can see its not camouflaged or anything. Next morning had one. I got tired of them after about the 5th one so I stopped catching them.

Any other ?'s pm me

I snare a fair amount of them in the water where there are trails going through the algae 5-6" loop half in half out of the water works too

They must not be using this part of the levie on the pond then. these traps have been set for days.

He said they had piles of brush in the pond and he removed it with a loader. i did see some cattails on one side of the pond and there was some cuttings there.
