Deal with it I'd assume. Trap outside the fence.

Fresh circle in the morning, nothing better.

Can you snare? We cannot, but I bet pasture fences would be good snare locations. especially if they are calving.

Easy, make a scent post and then off to the side place a log or an attraction that would make a canine want to scent mark it, Charlie Dobbins used to take a log, scent one end and set traps at unscented holes along the log.

I have come to the conclusion that trapping with cows is not worth the effort of remaking. And whatever you do do NOT use cow bones as visual attractors, makes them real mad.

Rumor has it that a step down dirthole is a bit live stock proof. The cattle generally wouldn't to step down into a small depression. I don't know if it would be worth the hassle, but if there is a corner that would make a good set, stick a temporary post in and string a couple of strands of wire. I.e, temporarily fence them out (very small area). You probably wouldn't need to brace the post or stretch the wire tight--the cattle are generally trained to "think" (and I use the term very loosely where live stock are concerned) they can't cross the fence line. Really, the easier thing would be to find another place without cattle.

Get a friend and set your traps incognito. This would be within CharlesKS expertise I believe.

Some coyote lures attract the cattle more than others. I use very little urine or non at all. The Black Angus are the worse for sticking their noses in it. The set off the side would seem to be the best solution when you have to trap with cattle. Use a trap smaller than a#3 a #3 will hold one once in a while.T.20

When i set in cow pastures ,after i make my set i walk a distence away and pretend to make another set, maybe turn up a log or some dirt while the cows are watcthing me.Since cows dont have good memories they forget your first set and go to your fake set.I heard this a long time ago and tried it after a cow stepped on my set, havent had any trouble since. But good luck after u make a catch, the cows will propblably stomp your catch to pieces.

If you catch a coyote in that pasture do you think the cows will trample it to past?

I've trapped with cows and It sucks. I have learned a few things. One thing is NEVER use gland lure. They will stomp the set to peices along with your trap. Use very little urine. Also when you can set under trees with overhanging branchs, tights fence corners, brush, ect. Another thing. Ask the owner if you can fence off a small spot. Only like 3-5 sq. feet.

While checking stay atleast 15 feet away when checking and don't slow down unless you have something or have a snapped trap. And if helps if you set and check them in lowlight hours.

Ya just gotta be smarter than the cattle; - may be hard for ya!

Are you a member of the SCTA?

I trap almost 80% active cattle land. I have very few problems outa cattle but I've also grown up raising them an know their ways.

Cattle will harass caught critters and yes fight them. I've never had a dead critter due to cattle but it could happen tomorrow.

Like said before you have gotta be smarter than cows. Wait till night or feeding time to set. Something I do alot of in high traffic cow areas (water troughs and gates) is the tire set. Just make a dirthole and throw a tire over it, or make a mouse nest and put it in the tire where a dirthole would be compared to your trap. Lots more tires laying around for animals to get used to and hunt mice around than you realize until you go to looking. Coyotes like cows, I have seen cows surround caught coyotes, and ignore caught coyotes same set different days, by all means don't let cows discourage you.

Way back when, this topic came up, and someone posted some stuff about making sets inside of tires in the cow pastures.

Oops, too late. Already covered.

To the one that said cows are not that smart i must disagree. Cows remember every trail they have been on and every loose wire in a fence and where to find that trail and fence if only twice a year. transition from pasture to hay and from hay to pasture.
Trying to load them to take to the market and they escape you will work your butt off to get them corraled again.
As to cows killing caught animals I have not had that happen yet. Have caught every type of land animal with no deaths attributed to cattle. IAFF

Tom Beaudette makes a lure called "No Stock" I have used it with a LOT of success.

Put out salt blocks on anyones farm I know and you won't trap there again. There are usually strategic salt areas, and special blends of salt that don't need outside help. If you want to import something in to keep cows out of your sets and you don't know anything about cows, try alfalfa hay or corn silage by the ton, let the farmer know first but he will probably go for it.
