I like to make these when there is alot of different sign around a certain area. But my main target with this set is coon. But on this type of set it is attractive to coon, fox, yotes, mink, otter, and Bobcat these and all animals must have water to survive. When scouting ponds creeks and streams you will find that there is certain spots were all animals will come for water and looking for food. All watering spots may not be visited by all species. But there are spots where the spot draws all animal as to what the draw to the certain spot is i dont know. But it is there what ever it is. The first pick shows where i have dug a hole about 6 to 8 inches in diameter and about 12 inches deep. The bigger hole draws alot of interest from all animals.

The second pic shows the trap beds with the traps i will use to set this sight with. They are northwoods 1.5 and a no.2 This gives me a variety of traps and both will hold bobcats and yotes and otter. We have a 24 hr check in Missouri so the 2 for coon shouldn't be a problem. Always check early. it will save you some fur.

The 3rd pic shows the traps setting in there respective beds. Be sure and stake these traps at there full chain length. This will keep the animal or animals from tangling in the chains.

The 4th pic show the traps in there beds with some guiding being added. A large rock placed between the traps forces the animals to one side or the other. This will also help to be doubles on coon with this set up.

The 5th pic shows the Traps having been sifted and every thing is in place. But i am not done yet i want to further block them down to either side of the set.

The 6th pic shows some added blocking to further push them into one trap or the other. This makes them choose a point to enter the whole. be it left or right. This pic shows the final set up of the set.

The 7th pic shows the set across the small creek. Along with the large amount of sign that is all along the banks and shore line.

seems like alot of work for a coon set. i would have just put a pocket under them root. very nice looking set for a fence line or wood line.

It took me awhile to see the set location in the last pic \:\)
Thanks for the pics and the type of locations. I will be doing some trapping in areas just like that this year.

The main target is coon but most of the time its and everything set up when you find the variety of sign that is there. It wont be just coon.

The last pic shows the set in the upper right corner. I wanted to show the amount of sign that is there.

great post as usual ....and as usual i have a couple questions .... why not have placed that set right off the highwater mark on the point ?? where the end of the left guide log touches the ground and to the left ...... also ... how many mink do ya catch in that type of set ?? im just curious .... i do see many good set locations in that pic tho !!! the one lov 2 trap mentioned .... blind set just to the left of where he is talkin bout .... and at the base of the roots on the right side ... and a 220 where ya put ya set .... yadda yadda yadda \:\)

Gary most of the sign runs along that edge of where the set is. There is alot of deer sign further up at the high water edge. Deer and my traps dont mix they smash them pretty good. And i will place the set where i can see the majority of activity. Behind the laid down tree ther is a heavy trail with coon bobcat and fox tracks there. About mink i average about one or two a season off this type of set. But have a lot of coon and fox work them. Catch 1 or 2 yots in sets like this same with the cats. Here in missouri the only land coni set we can make is a 110 all others must be submerged totally. Snares are out but we do have cable restains now. There are so many good set ups at this sight it isnt funny.

I like it. In all but the last pic, I was thinking the traps needed to be set closer to the hole as coon will run right along the side there and miss the trap. Then I saw those logs and it all made sence.
Someone asked why you did not just set below those roots... well you could certainly set there as well. take three in one area. If that set was closer to deep water (and it may be in winter) you could have those on drowners, and I would even say you could make that pocket a tad bigger and set a 110 back in there as well for mink and rats. I like multiple trap sets. Good post!

so what do u bait with?? or do you even bait..i guess u could just leave it, it has good eye appeal and all. i would try salmon oil, last year when i set for dryland coons on a trail between creeks,i used salmon oil and i had coyotes come in and investigate...but the tracks showed that they caught my scent on the trap because they wouldnt get within the sifted dirt.

I like it but where your black hole is at is where the deer go up the bank. The other set ups wood be great to except the water level usually rises up to the root ball just below my set in the fall when we get alot of our rain. But if it would stay there like that they would all be great set ups. Thanks for the pic i like the way you worked it.
