Honestly couldn't say on the spread. Just got them done other day and our season doesn't open until the 22. To be honest they didn't feel as heavy made as I thought they would though. Have thought about adding large pans on them too

Thanks chris.
When you have some time could you check the jaw spread and the size of the pans also ?
Love all my longs and trying to find the trap I am looking for, as we can only go up to 7" spread until Dec. 1 on our wolves.
Trying to get as close to the 7" mark as I can.

If we could run Sleepy 4 1/2s early on ,I would be in heaven! smile smile

Hey guys, I've been gathering some dls for next season to try on canines. One question I have...does anybody have any issues with throwing the canines foot out of the trap. I thought this might be an issue because of the way dls need to have both springs folded back in the direction of the dog side jaw to make the jaws lye flat. I use #11 dls for coon and never had these issues, but I thought it might be a problem with fox or yotes.

Has anyone ever set the trap so that the springs are facing the hole in a dirt hole set to avert this issue?

Yes on single and double dirt holes. Put a jaw guard near the loose jaw.

I figure I will jump on in here. I just bought a couple of stock victor #3s. I was planning on adding a paws-i-trip system, but I am not sure on how difficultl it is to do. Also, I was going to go ahead and baseplate them, but I dont have access to a welder. Does anyone have any ideas/comments. These will be used for coyotes/fox.

All my vic #3's i drilled a hole next to the cross frame and put a j-hook through and then attached my chain. I have yet to have a bent frame. No need to baseplate. Been using them this way for 18 yrs.

Can you take a single longspring trap and add a spring to it to make it a double longspring? I don't see why not or am I missing something.

When you set a dls for coyotes which way does the coyote come across the
trap? (ex. do you bed it with dirt hole toward center of springs
or does it step across the loose jaw?)

I put the dog toward the hole and use a jaw guard the size of a baseball at the loose jaw. Forces the yote to come in at a 45 deg, steps more between the jaws. Tom mirandas yote book is good for describing this

I caught my first otter in an old victor #2 dl set in a culvert wired to a log set for coon. For water trapping I still use the #2 now I use the sleepy creek #2 dl and I have caught coon, otter, and fox in this trap. The dl will always have a place on my trap line
