Regarding 110's, You can get rub marks if the 110 doesn't do it's job quickly. 120's are more reliable to do the job quickly and humanely.

Trappers in the far north use legholds on pole sets, where freezing to a bodygrip is an issue. They use 0 to no. 1 1/2 longsprings or jumps. For me a 1 1/2 coil is overkill , causing unnecessary trauma. Bodygrippers Are the best choice, except in the very cold of the far north. MArten are pretty delicate with fine bones and thin skin.

Mid November through January they will be at their best primeness. Depends on your legal season.

Cages are also very effective on marten.

Bruce T, looks like good 110's work well for you. Some of the older ones that don't clos so tight didn't.'t work well for me. And on my line there are fisher in the same woods sometimes .

From what I see in Bruce T's pictures those traps are Belisle Super X 120's. An excellent marten and fisher trap.

Thanks.I really like those duke 110 magnums for fisher and marten.You have to bend the triggers wide apart and out over the bait away from the conibear to catch the fisher in them.I always catch my 10 fisher before my 25 marten so after my limit of fisher is reached I simply bend the triggers back to the regular V shape to finish catching the rest of my marten as the fisher can't get their head in the trap that way.I also pull all my 160's at this time also.

Bruce;

How are you attaching the trap to the tree so that is stays there after firing?

By the way, love my 110 magnums for mink, too and no boubt would take care of a coon if it ever stuck its head into it.

Thanks, Kelly

I was wondering if you skin a marten the same way that you would a fox or coyote also if you strech them on wood or wire.

Marten our handled like a Fox. They our stretched on wood.

There is very little fleshing. They our first put on a stretcher fur in but can be turned in a matter of hours in a warm shed. They have very fragile skin so great care must be taken they do not dry to much before turning.

On the same note if they our to moist when turned they will stick to the stretcher. I learned to wrap my Marten board in plastic wrap to avoid grief.

I just wrap a a couple strands of wire so they cross each other around the bottom inside jaw of the conibear to the tree.It holds the trap in place.
