The first pic is location along the lake bank. I like this set up it has yielded alot of coon some rats and mink. I like a bank that is a little higher than the water. The second pic is of the tools i used to make the set i used a piece of field drainage pipe about 20 inches long, a victor 1 1/2 with the square pan. And my trap shovel for digging in the bank. The 3rd pic is of the hole being dug to proper depth and width of pipe. Remember to save the dirt for filling around the exposed pipe. The 4th pic is the pipe inserted in the bank hole. Then the dirt is applied to the pipe to cover at least 3/4 of pipe. Leaving at least 4 inches exposed. Now the 5th pic shows the set with the camo flage added. and the trap placement. i set the trap where just the pan is exposed. The pipe is extended beyond the bank the trap is set about 3 inches in front of pipe this is to force the coon to the deeper water at the end of pipe and away from bank. He will have to raise up to see in pipe which puts his back foot in trap. Trap is attached to a drowner wire and the coon is deep sixed. The final pic is everything set up and the set at a distance. This is what the coon sees. Now a little bait and lure to the hole and your set to catch those coons at the waters edge. Thanks for looking DH

Thanks for posting pictures of a good-lookin' set! I have a question, though. Have you ever had people mess with your pipe thinkin' maybe it is an illegal discharge into the lake or something? I would be afraid to use it for fear of attracting unwanted human intervention on public waters.
I'm just happy to be here! Today I'm as young as I'll ever be and and older than I've ever been before!

first coon caught set will be destroyed if you get a back foot catch... Not knocking the idea... - just wouldnt want to rebuild this time after time catching coons If you don't want to remake a set, wouldn't a slide be a way to achieve that? Whether it just takes the critter away, or down into the drink, doesn't make much difference, either way he wouldn't be able to tear up an otherwise bombproof set. If a set that looks like this encourages trap thieves, in your area, I feel sorry for you. Deerhunter, Thanks for yet another of your step by step posts. Keep 'em comin'! Krusty

Tried sets just like that around the pond, and on parts of the creeks, and they are awesome, only thing is carrying the pipe, but if you make them preseason, it won't hurt to take your time and set them and work them out over a distance, then off season, just leave them there.... once they are set, they are set,

Great poast the others can say all they want but after looking this the young ones can see what a bank set needs to look like with pipe or with out.

Do it with what you got and you wont need what you do not have

Nice set, but just one suggestion...
I've used a similar set up when I can't dig a hole for a traditional pocket.
I learned I need to somehow anchor that pipe. I trap creeks with decent flow and lost some pipe when the coons tore up the set.
Sometimes just a short piece of wire to keep it in the set area. Sometimes pinned down with rocks or logs.

Here's another version. http://thebeav.topcities.com/fall03/fall03.html#pvcI like my pipe to be vertical so If you have a raise In the water level your set Is still operational. And the white pipe gives you good eye appeal which Is more Important In coon trapping then a good bait or lure.

Yep...that'll work too. Anything to keep it from going into the water and drifting away. Although, it doesn't look like anything could drift away in that water from your photo!!
