Which do you personally prefer? I lure put up in paste form or in liquid? Or do you prefer a liquid early in the season and then a paste later on??

Depends on the lure. Castor based for predators-thick, so it can be smeared. Call lure liquid. Food lure thick, to smear in the hole.

Thick paste lures do not drip, slop or run down the side of the jar resulting in contamination of ones traps and equipment.

I use alot of trench and step down dirt holes. When I lure I use a piece of goldenrod and dip it in the lure, place it in the hole and take a stick and shove it back as far as i can. With liquid lures they tend to drip on my trap pattern right were i dont want them. So my vote is for paste type lures. Mike

This is a good thread, looking forward to seeing everyone's answers/input. I'm undecided on the topic...need more experience with both.

This might sound like a smartas answer but its not, i personally don't care as long as i get results. i've only used a few liquid lures but have done well with them, but i've done well with thick lures also.

jlord's heading down the correct road. Depends on what set im making.

If using flat sets on old fence post, rocks, wood, grass tuft, etc. i like liquid better as it soaks into whatever you put it on. At dirt hole type sets i like the paste type as you can get a glob of it on a stick and toss down the hole.

If you have nerve problems though like Asa and can't hold steady without dripping it all over everything you own id say the paste type's are better for you lol.

I would rather have a paste lure, but have caught with both. If I could have the exact same smell, in either form, I would take a paste almost everytime.

For fox I use a liquid urine based gland lure.I use a flip top plastic bottle....one short squirt in the dirt hole does the trick....no drippng and no mess. For water sets,I like a good smear of paste lure/bait....I don't have to be as carefull and it holds up around water sets.
For late season canines....a good smear of Bill Nelsons cat meat bait....I use a paint stiring stick to apply it.

Liquid is best in dry, extreme cold trapping conditions.....Liguid lures just arn't water and other ingredients mixed. Liquid lure is usually some type of oil base.
When evaporation of the lure starts it leaves a molicule trail that the critters can smell thus follow to your set. Evaporation of an oil base liquid lure will take several days, so re-lureing is not needed if you started with the correct amount to begin with.

(I believe)Paste lure is only good in heavy rain conditions and even then I hesitate to use.
The paste type lures dry rapidly and or TRAP in the scent once the outside portion of the lure has been exposed to the elements (heat, wind, cold, etc.)
I don't care for paste lures as you can tell.

You guys saying your worried about a drip of liquid lure dropping on your set obviusly don't know where your suppose to be putting the lure....lol
