I need to set/adjust my new traps in the pan tension dept. I want about 3 lbs of tripping pressure. What methods do y'all use to test/set your traps????

Weigh a bottle of water and use that, or a length of 2x4. I'd not waist money on a tester.

I actually have some bags of lead shot that weigh 3 lbs. I was thinking of attaching a piece of string to one and carefully laying it on the pan. if it fires, it's too light and if not, too tight. Sound ok????

Spend a few dollars and get Sullivans' tester it saves all the questions about exact weight and head aches. Skip the 12 pack and buy it, it will pay for itself trust me.

Sounds like you got a good plan there to me.

I'll probably eventually get the Sullivan tester, but I need to work on traps now,,,! So, thanks for the help to those who offered. My 3 lb weights will get a piece of string and a workout for a bit.

Don't see why your method wouldn't work.

When testing my traps before I got the trap tester, I would put my loose jaw up (even do that with the tester) to save whatever I was testing with and the jaws. Works good.
