I am starting to get my trapping list ready for next season and I'm just curious whether you guys prefer pan covers or underalls. The traps ill be using are dukes, bridger, and victor 1 1/2 and montana #3s.

I knowe it was on the last thread on this topic, but I don't remember what people said, so I'll ask it agian. Will the polyfill freeze if it gets wet? I think it sounds alot better than pan covers, but I can't see using anything that would freeze.

I wondered the same thing, so I balled up a big ol' wad of polyfill from Wal-mart, soaked it under the faucet, and put it into the freezer soaking wet. The next morning there were a few little icy dingle berries clinging to a soft wad of polyfill. Does not hold moisture and does not freeze.

Nowadays it just don't pay to be a good 'ol boy.

Pan covers do work, till fine sand is used. I like (poly-fill) under the pan. A rolled up golf ball size under the pan will do the trick.

Reflections in a 'time warp.' Before 'Underalls" ever surfaced in the marketing strategy of trapper hype, on occasion, the elders here can probably relate to it's forerunner, "sill seal." I have used crinkled wax paper for 55 years, by choice, learning and utility. Tried the underall (sill seal) one season - thinking it was the "answer." It did not fit my schedule or circumstances. The incarnation of "Underalls" as so prescribed in your query may be fitting, proper and just for you, and others here. It may work well for you, and, if it does, do not hesitate. I avoided it - continuing to use wax paper - becuse it did not fit my circumstances fully.

I like polyfill with my fox traps/smaller traps, ie... 1 1/2 thru #2 size traps, due to target area and jaw spread. For my # 3 size traps I prefer a pan cover. My # 3's are Montanas and in my opinion that is a lot of jaw spread for the pan and I have had fox to step between the pan and jaws, so a wire screen/ waxed paper cover will also give me a more sensitive pan as well as expanding my "kill zone". Though I do not set this trap with fox in mind. I don't want to miss any cats either. Don't rule out the underalls. I have no direct experience with them, but Tom Boudette uses them soaked with glycol for an all weather set in the Master Trapper video.

Does anybody ever use 1 ply toliet paper? I used that last year. I just flipped up the jaw and laid it over the pan and set the jaw back down and cover it up. It worked fine for me. I might get some poly fil! I'll look at walmart, I think that I read you can get it there. Where at in wal mart? Thanks

Thank God for your blessings!

Craft section Slate. It's basically pillow stuffing.

polyfill is great it even works in water sets were there is a chance of silt and gravel geting under your pan

I use underalls from MTP. They are cheep and they work fine. I do treat mine with anti-freeze.
