LT, I see you use 2 double ferrules per end. Why? Another question I have is this.....Is a double ferrule that is hammered on weaker, the same, or stronger than the listed breaking strength of the cable?

You should ALWAYs use 2 stops or double ferrels per end on 1x19 cable...it is much slicker than aircraft and big boss coyotes and blanket beaver can , on occasion, pop off if only 1...so use 2 on this type of cable.

Aluminum stops or ferrels hammered on or crimped on...I haven't noticed much difference, really!

So 1 is sufficient on 7x7 cable. Sorry if my ? was confusing but I was not asking about hammering vs. crimping. Rather, when a ferrule is hammered on say a 5/64 7x7 cable, is that connection as strong, stronger, or weaker in your experience than the cable.
I believe the listed breaking strength on the 5/64 cable I have is 680lbs. Do you think the cable would break before the ferrule would fail?

Yes, good eye! It's is a 1/2 smooth rod T-Bar,(upside down.)

Cable will not break using it for snaring coyotes or similar type animals.
An improper put on swag may "pop" off... The reason to use 2 on 1x19.

7x7 is not inferior by measurement... but there sure some bad cable out there!

Sullivan's BAD or a Gregerson's lock, both legal.

some just don't think of a snare around somethings foot. If I was checking twice a day that is the way I would want all of them. Much easier skinning than frozen.

Painfull as it is.... we make over 100 dozen a year for trappers across the country from Alaska to Florida and a lot of places in between. I make several hundred for myself to use each year.

I'm not high tech, but I make the same snares that I use and that's what people want.
I won't sell something I wouldn't use.

But this post isn't about what I can do for you...it's about what you can do for yourself.

Snares are not hard to make if you have the right stuff and a little bit of know how.

You don't need high dollar crimpers and such, to make a quality snare.

What I really sell, or should say, "give" is customer service When you get something from me, I teach you how to use it and do so effectively.

Trappers call me all the time and ask for advice. I never turn any away, either.

And I dare say, that if trappers on this web-site who read my post stood up and said, "Your post helped me become a better snareman", well there'd be one or two anyway...


I hand tune everything that leaves here...I'm an ADC trapper full time. I trap and snare for a living and the things I make are the things that help keep me in business. People understand that.

Regardless, trappers won't stop ordering...I guess they like something custom made.
