I wear hipboots just about every day for much of the summer while commercial fishing. Years ago, I just decided that I would just buy cheap hipboots and try to get one season out of them. Storing them over is sort of a crapshoot. Sometimes, it works just fine, sometimes it doesn't. Better ones hold over better, but I dislike working in the heavy better quality hipboots. Obviously, keep them out of the sun, that is the real killer. Spraying/wiping down with armor-all helps too. Definitely do not store them folded.

If I gt 2 seasons out of a pr of hip waders I consider myself lucky, most of the time it is from one season to the next with me buying a new pr in the middle of the season.

I have posted this before but worth doing again. Listen up folks. Every one knows about the sun breaking down rubber. Enough said there. The other main reason why they go to h--l in storeage is because they are put in a room with an electric motor that runs regularly. (freezer, refrigerator, water pump, ect.) I don't use hip boots much but the ones I do have are probably 15 years old, maybe even older, and look like new. Stored laying flat or hung, out of the sun, dry, and AWAY FROM AN ELECTRIC MOTOR.

Quality hip boots like LaCrosse Big Chief will last 2-3 years if stuffed with newspapers and hung in a cool closet away from sunlight, heat, and ozone produced by electric motors.

Also keep them away from bob-war fences, sharp beaver stobs, etc.

Heavy, black rubber hip boots are an abomination in my opinion, I would rather trap in tenny shoes....

I have 2 wader hangers I purchased at Wal-mart. Just a plastic bracket that is screwed tp the wall. It pinches the waders at the ankle and they are suspended upside down.

I believe they were less then $5 and work super !

Most of the time mine are in the back of the truck. I do have a rack made of a 2x4 with 3/4" dowels in the garage, but they only go there occasionally. The rack holds 3 or 4 sets of waders and the set of hip boots.

I hang them upside down in a cool place. I wash them off and apply Armorall before I put them up for the year.

If they last a 2 years there good ones for me usually get a new pair every year... as I use them for trapping and fishing. $20 bucks for the cheap ones to last you a year or two then I get new ones.
