Good luck in finding your traps with this last foot of snow we have had this past week.
Hope you can get a ride up to the NAFA OPEN House this year on the 11 DEC.
There will be a few rats to put up so bring your knife.
White we will try to get a pic of a "smiling rat skinner" for you soon at the Open House.

Get some belly boards in that mink and the rats. Tease the board in slowly when they have dried a little, otherwise put a moist towel and relax the skins for 15 minutes before the push. You can make a small inspection window 1/2 inch on the belly of the mink, if the hide is still soft before drying.
That escarpment country looks good for some red squirrel in the distant oak ridges. When you look at that group of oak across, you should get 3 traps set there. Make up some weasel boxes and they will be covered between checks from the ravins. 2 inch holes and the travelling mink will go in them.
You learned something at last years open house judging how those rats were skinned and put up. Good job

dude how can you be disappointed?? every time going out is a learning experience.. if your getting fur your doing great.. just learn more and find out what your doing wrong and what your doing right.
and as a smart man once said... find out what your not good at in life..... then dont do that thing..
that rat is a perfect catch.. how did you set for it with that 110?
what time did you want to go sunday?
and will it be only you and me? or is your dad coming also?

I was looking at your sub trap (colony trap)there snostorm. It is the same design that I used in the past. I always painted the inside of the funnel black, looks more like a hole for them to go in. Leave the part inside the trap shinny so they do not see an escape route. Nice posts and pictures, keep up the good work. smile

Good stuff there.
You should enter the Manitoba Trappers Asssoc youth pelt handling contest this winter... probably the easiest 50 dollars you have ever made..since very few youth enter it. 3 pelts from 3 fur bearers I think.
Those 2 rats should be enough for 10 weasel trap locations.
Might want to let the rat dry a little longer, test the mouth area that is completly dry to the touch.
