Sounds like I have used only about half of the wax I actually need to use. And this isn't even half of what I figure me and my buddy will use next season. We've been getting nice hot days lately and I'm getting good melt down of the wax, but can't afford to buy it in the 1 pound blocks from wal-mart. Maybe its time to see if Tom still has some for sale. Thanks for the information Mr. Graham.

July and August is the time to do it here.
We don't have real hot days like out west.
Been raining here too much lately to even think about it...

LT GREY, are you using the waxed dirt to sift over your traps in the winter time to prevent frozen traps??? I have never seen this before BUT if it prevents the traps from freezing I Love The Idea!!!!

Yes, over and under.

Many trappers fail to realise how valuable waxed dirt is in places that have a lot of rain, but not nessasarily freezing conditions.

Peat will also shead a lot of rain.

Hey LT...
I dont have anything to really use as a tray to spread my dirt in then spread the wax on top of it.

What I do have is a few 2 1/2 gallon black buckets with lids. Was thinkin about doing a layer of dirt, layer of wax, layer of dirt, so on , then letting them set in the hot sun. Think that would work ?? If so, how thick should I make each layer of dirt without getting it to thick?

Thank you LT GREY I will have to figured out a tray system like you have. Would be perfect to get it done right now it's been 100 degrees here for about 1 1/2 weeks and it doesn't show any sign of getting cooler just hotter.......... Southern Oregon gets pretty hot and dry in the summer!

Anthill dirt is coated with a waxy substance from the ants. It works but does not hold up well.

Got a couple batches cookin this week. One completley dry getting wax on today, two drying completley today hoping to wax tomorrow. Just have an old plastic shower curtain layed out with the dirt on it. Then black plastic over the batch getting the wax. Supposed to be close 90 the next two days with sun so hope it goes well. My first attempt. Will let ya know .
