It's too good to eat to waste it for bait. You ever tried bobcat backstrap, sliced across the grain, rolled in seasoned flour and quick-browned in bacon grease? Make you slap your mama away from the table.

I'm serious as a heart attack. It is GOOD stuff, mild-flavored like veal, sort of. The leg meat is good too, if you cut the meat across the grain, but of course it's not as tender as the backstrap.

Yep ate it for the first time this year when I ran on a kansas catman's line......he said to pass on the old toms unless you like strong flavor reminiscent tasting the way urine smells.....see if that makes it thought the filter...LOL

When he says "serious as a heart attack," he's not too far off from the truth. Cooking that meat or any meat in bacon grease is like injecting cholesterol right into your arteries. If that is worth the flavor, then I say go for it. But, cook it thoroughly, because cats eat rodents, and rodents carry several kinds of worms.

If you throw a bobcat carcass in the pit, with deer parts and guts, the cat will be pulled out in the morning and the deer parts will still be there long after the bobcat has been eaten and the bones are scattered....

Red fox love bobcat meat, so do coyotes, and yes, other bobcats will not pass it up either...

I have had other varmints stay in the pit until they rot down, but never a bobcat... something always digs it out and hauls it off...

So I would say, it should make a good bait....

Bob Wendt from IN wrote a bobcat trapping story one time. He took his daughter out west to trap and he cooked bobcat, sliced it up for sandwiches, they ate it. I heard that cougar and bobcat are good tasting. I should try it. Powder River paste bait from O'Gorman is bobcat meat based. One of the top selling and producing baits out there.

Oh, for pity's sake, now this thread has degenerated into a health food debate. Cook it in canola oil, then.

Im not much of a bait guy but this year I tried something. I threw a bobcat, red fox and a coyote carcass all out in the same spot. A week went by and nothing. Then all of the sudden tracks everywhere and bob was drug all over the place. This was more than a month ago and today the fox and the yote are still in the same spot untouched. Got me thinking.

Horns, Fur and Fish. What else do you need?

They only seem to eat a coyote if they are real stressed for food, I can't blame them! Coons and cats and others dissappear first.
