Very funny story, thanks for posting this Vinke.
By the way, did anyone notice that the Chinese made OOS broke when they test fired it for the video. LOL. Good traps, but they will crack if you dry fire them.
Take it from me that the citizens of Washington state are completely ignoring this idiotic law. This time of year, I sell more mole traps to WA than to any other state, by far.
This is yet another example of a silly law that criminalizes everyday activities.
Vinke, do you know what the prospects for changing this are? Are there any laws in the works to de-criminalize mole trapping in WA?

If WSTA has anything to say about it the answer is never, until we get comprehensive reform legislation. Why should we agree to fixing this small part of a stupid law and leave all the other problems with the law in place with nothing to push the issue?

"Why should we agree to fixing this small part of a stupid law and leave all the other problems with the law in place with nothing to push the issue?"
I'd love to see a repeal of the whole trapping ban in Washington state, just as I'm sure everyone else on this site would. The problem is that the voters in Washington voted for a trap ban, and whether you agree with them or not, the democratic process is such that the majority can pass laws that many don't agree with. The voters of WA state have a right to ban the use of traps if that's what they want to do.
The problem with the original trap ban is that it was poorly written, and even the sponsors of the bill agree that they never intended the bill to apply to mole traps.
So the question then is, do you fix the problems in the bill by writing in an exemption for mole traps, or do you scrap the entire bill and completely undo the trap ban that the WA voters voted in?
Personally, I'm with you, and would like to see the entire ban on "body gripping traps" thrown out the door, but I don't think that's a reasonable expectation given that the voters voted in a trap ban.
Seems to me that in opposing an exemption for mole traps, the WSTA is using that issue to try and get around the will of the voters, and I don't think that's very democratic.

I agree Steve, but did the voters truely know what they voted for? I have voted on the wrong side of an issue a couple of times myself. Heck, Wisconsinites vote wrong nearly every time there's an election!

The pitfalls of democracy in action. Voter iniatives are the bane of our constitutional republic. Pure democracy as evidenced in the voter initiative always leads to tyranny by the majority.

I am with warrior on this one. The United States (and all of the original state constitutions mirrored the federal one on this issue) is supposed to be legislative form of Government, not majority rule. The only time "all of people" were supposed to vote on individual laws is for a constitutional amendment and that takes about two years to happen so that people will have the time to cool down and learn what the law is all about. Steve, We're not the only ones with problems because of this law. It's illegal to use a gopher trap. We have overpopulations of numerous furbearers that are impossible to control under this law. A lot of people are having problems with this law and we are not just trying to fix the trappers problems. We are trying to get comprehensive reform not just a repeal.
As for the argument, that's democracy, well yea, they voted for it. let 'em live with it. If they want to fix it, we're ready any time but fix all the problems with it.
(The problem with the original trap ban is that it was poorly written, and even the sponsors of the bill agree that they never intended the bill to apply to mole traps.)
They should have read it then. We told them it did. The state attorney general told them it did and HSUS admitted that it would ban mole traps, albeit at the last minute.

As long as I've got a bunch of Washington state people on here, I'd like to ask a question; Do you still need to be seated to get served a beer in Washington?

Seems to me it would make more sense to require that you be able to stand up before being served another beer. Such a law would have spared one of the guys that works for me from suffering a large bruise on the side of his face last weekend.

Yes, which my guy was. I expected a creative explanation for the bruise on his face. No, he said....."I was drunk, I fell down, and I hit my face on the floor". Very honest guy.

Steve, that was my thought exactly. This was in the airport and the year was 1966, which is before most of you were born. I was led to believe that unless you were seated, you could not be served any alcoholic beverage, which at the time made me crazy. And rasbo, I haven't had a beer in 29 years; too many bruised faces!
