We make them here at the shop!
They aren't that difficult to make with a little practice.

I treat all my snares, (to blend them in) but the one shown, I just made because people always ask me about the type of snare I use for head snaring raccoons.|

I do my mink snares that way too.

I load my snares for fox and coyotes, a bit differently.

I like to use 1/16th 1x19 snare but not legal for coons in my state. I can see if you using 7x7 cable. 5/64 and up is the law.
I will have to write my senator.

18" but rebar works well too. 'Coons are not stake pumpers, per-say!

24" rebar stake with a #9 wire pigtail wrapped around the stake. Snare swivel through the rebar, #9 into the wammy. The snare picture you posted looks to short to be anchored at ground level, thats why I asked. Also sometimes use a washer welded to the #9 through which I drive the stake. That way I can use stakes for foot holds as well as snares. Your snare looks really good.

If you run a snare off of a rebar stake and the support wire off the same stake with coyotes, you will be asking for trouble!

Please explain. I have done it this way for years with out any problems yet. I don't normally catch that many coyotes in snares (mostly fox and coon). I guess I can see the potential for the support wire to interfere with the swivel and perhaps cause some unraveling?

All well and good.
But a animal triggers a snare with his chest on the bottom of the loop. Not by side steping once his head is in the loop.

Yep, got that one figured out.... Snare will fire the same, either way. When the animal hits it, it's closed! smile

No, it's 1x19 Korean cable.
American and Chinese are junk by comparison.

would you show us your method of making the swan neck? Do you make just the swan neck or do you also rub the cable over a rod to help load it?
