it sucks... i only have 10 boxes made, and 4 of them i lent to Gerald Schmitt.... hes getting his daughter into trappin weasels i did however cut some big weasel tracks out in the sloughs im trappin... some mighty big weasels.. i may win a contest!!

Well, I am a Weasel trapper!

I ran to Brainerd for work today and dropped by Fleet Farm for some supplies and rat traps. The only rat traps they had that weren't he $4 ea plastic ones were the ones with the small trigger, not the big yellow trigger. Hopefully they work.

I got 10 boxes hammered together and chopped some bait and took off. i had some cat traps that needed to be checked so I? threw in 9 boxes, one 1 1/2 ls milk jug set and my brand spankin new proto type Diet Pepsie set.

Also, didnt get any cats...








See the diet pepsie set? It is a #1 ls inside 2 liter bottle. Bait is on wire and pulled into spout and there is also an anise coated tick up there too.



Those little dots are indeed weasle tracks!



These are about the only 2 culverts I'll see on my atv line as I am in a roadless area aall in the backwoods.

I set tonight on slough edges and all sets are on tracks. I also have some set on a powerline that had a bunch of weasle tracks on it.

We'll see tomorrow am...

Oh, my Weasle trapping career was almost very short lived as I got my right thumb in the very first trap! Those hummers are stronger than they look.

How are you guys attaching your trap tags?

Tuck your tag under the spring tails and they will stay put for the most part. I have a thumb tack through the tag hole in about half my traps.

I will never understand why the Yellow pan models are so hard to find. You would visit every hardware store in Brainerd and not find them I expect.

trap tags are brad nailed to the trap or use a marker on the bottom with name or ID#.with the traps at fleet farm you can make a bigger pan by using plastic tackel box dividers.drill a hole in them and slide them on.you are off to a good start with fresh tracks.

I do the same thing with the tackle box dividers. Great minds etc... Here's my weasel box with #1 LS. Use same design for rat trap.






There's a hole in the base of the #1 so I screw it into place. Also the traps are on araised floor so the weasel doesn't miss the pan.

Just use fine wire and wire a little bait on the triggers, this strike is in a better area, back of neck/skull and not mid body. You are not deducted damage for head captures, the other ones can have other problems.....

The Fleet Supply store here 2poor has all the victor yellow pans you can buy thats the only place I could find any around.

MTP sells the yellow pan traps for $22 per doz I think. I'll know by tracks if I'm missing the white wonders and if so these are getting canned and an order is going in to mtp!

After running traps tomorrow I am making a fleshing beam for weasles. Anyone have dimensions for me?

Michael, if you need yellow panned victor traps let me know as ive got a few dozen around the garage I am not using.

I only found 1 Victor at Lowes, decided to go with the ones they had instock plus the Victor they had. I picked up a roll of 1/4" hardware cloth to build pans out of.(the rat traps Menards has are JUNK, the trigger on those suckers was so light I couldent set the trap on the workbench with out it going off)

Bandit Buster, I think just about every critter with fur is attracted to the scent of castor.

michael obrien, I am betting you will find that the traps next to the culverts are more productive than all the others put together. Let us know your results there!

Got a few more boxes out today, only got one weasel though. Lots of voles caught, set out 8 of my protype yellow-pan traps with the tension adjustable trigger. We'll see...

I also use electrical tape on the striker bar, that steel rusts very fast!

squirrelchaser, what kind of damage are you seeing on those ermine that are caught in the back as opposed to the neck? It seems like the striker bar would damage the neck fur too- Or is it just that when the critter is farther in it can be damage by the spring ends?

By the way I have found the yellow-pan trap to be lethal on red squirrel. Now have a couple winter prime pelts to send in! Every one I catch, I'm 1/4 of the way closer to my next cup of Starbucks! LOL!!!

I've been looking around home for some weasle sighn now we have snow. I have been seeing round poke holes in the snow. About the size of a 50 cent piece and smaller. No tracks to the holes just lots of holes all in small area of old granite foundation. I didn't take pics wish I did but do you suppose they are weasles. The snow is crusted over now and no way to see tracks. The grass was head high to me before the snows and laid down good with snow on top. Must be a mouse ridden maze under it for them. I could find a weasle track anywhere on top of snow just these holes. they looked to go straight down to the grass under snow. Any thoughts on this? will see if I can take some pics of area and holes today. Need to catch my first weasle ever and get the addiction going.

Most of the trapping supply houses sell the Professional model with the Yellow pan.
Good to here some of MN Fleet Farm stores are seeing the light. I far prefer that style pan vs trying to modify. Be nice to pick up a 1/2 dozen at my leisure while shopping at the Man's Mall.

I believe you are describing mouse and vole tunnels in the snow.

i am trying to trap a problem weasel by my friends pheasent cage. any ideas on the best place to put a box around and area like that.
