Bg I like that box, I would hate to have 250 of those to haul around. I would need a semi. Mine are 16" long 10" wide and 9" tall. That is inside measurements.

Bghunter119,
Those boxes are not legal here in Wisconsin. Would catch way too many dogs. I do not use buckets either. If I am using 220's I make the cubbys out of wire 36 inches long, 8 inches high and 8 inches wide. Trap is recessed min of 10 inches. I perfere 160 coni's and wooden boxes. 160's are cheaper and work real well on coon. Boxes are built 24 inches long and just wide and high enough to fit the trap about 7-7 1/2 inches with a 7 inch recess.

i have never set these boxes before, i only built 1/2 doz to use for cats, but since there seems to be short supply of buyers this year around here, i am going to use live traps to start, the land i am putting these on,all posted properety, the land owner makes two calls when he catches someone in there thats not suppose to be, 1 is the law, 2nd is the game warden, so there shouldnt be any dogs in there, key word be "shouldn't", i know it can happen, but he makes it very clear to everyone going in there i have traps out and they should be careful, i also try to avoid the more popular areas of this property, and stick to where most dont want to go, never trap public land either
MJM, i like yours, going to pick up Some 160's or somemore 220's next year and set for coons

I did about 250 in two batches. I cut everything out first. Then screwed the 1x2's on the sides on them all. Then the tops and Bottoms and backs on last. I worked on them as I had time. It wasn't a start to finish project. I was sick of them when I was done.

We tried boxes with just notches to hold the trap and had too many reachers. I just hate coon who try to reach inside and get their paw in the trap. In the morning you find the trap outside the box with nothing in it. So I went to 24 inch long boxes with the recess. Cut down on the reachers, but did not stop it completly. Our big 3XL and 4XL coon will still try to crawl inside. Anyone else want to jump in here on box sizes? In Wisconsin the law requires us to recess the 220 boxes, while we don't have to with 160's.

Mine are 9x10 22-24" deep, I don't recess mine but we are not required to. One other thing that I do is I have a 1x2 block attached to the top and bottom of the inside of the box that the coni sits against. This actually "throws" the trap towards the critter when it fires, this actually has resulted in about 90% deeper catches.

I get some coons reaching in mine. I wish mine were 24" deep, I feel it would cut down on some of it. But that plywood isn't cheap and I was trying to get more bang for my buck.

For many of my boxes I use old 1x10 barn wood, it's weathered so it blends in good and can cut to long lengths.

1x10's are 3/4 of an inch thick. Weight is also a factor when running all you can haul. I work a spring/ summer contract or they would all be wire mesh that folded down. Wire mesh and growing grass don't get along well.
