The Swiss bowed to ARA pressure for way to long and there was no satisfying the ARA agenda. Seems the Swiss are getting more realistic in dealing with the ARA malcontents.

The Swiss cabinet says measures should be toughened against animal
rights extremists.

The cabinet said the time was right to strengthen the law after last
summer’s attacks against the chief of Novartis, Daniel Vasella.
Responsibility for a fire at the Vasella’s Austrian holiday home in
August was claimed by British-based group Militant Forces against
Huntingdon Life Science.

Under current law, the federal government may not prosecute criminal
offenses committed by animal rights extremists from the animal cause.
The matter is left to the cantons.

Justice Minister Eveline Widmer-Schlumpf has been asked to submit
recommendations by the end of next year for possible changes to the
law.

Britain’s laws for such crimes, which have been tightened in recent
years, will be analyzed as a possible model for Switzerland.
