Okay I had a proposition today that I am seriously considering.
2001 Skandic. LT approx 4000 miles. Brand new motor rebuilt by AMD $1300. New cylinders, jackshaft and clutch and bearings. (had a melt down due to oil injector failing I believe). New bearings. Been taken care of and is in mint condition. He is asking $4000. I am considering selling one of my two Bravos to help pay for it. Is it worth it. I feel I need a machine with more power for pulling in fuel camp etc. Will still use the Bravo but I see a need for faster machine but one that is still good on the trapline. Seems a high price but it does have a lot of new money put into it. About 1000 miles on the rebuild. So it is proven. It is a pullin machine I know. Not the most comfortable but a big step up from the Bravo for sure. Opinion. What is it worth.

How long is the track ? Sounds spendy alright but might be worth it.

I'd like to point out that FT said an oil injection failure. Get out there and throw those things away.

I like the oil injection. Wasn't it the injector on the old tundra that was inherently bad? I personally have never had an injection failure on a my polaris or bravo. So far. ;0)

It's supply and demand , so people think their Tundra's and Scandic LT's are made of Gold . At least it's rebuilt for that price and new machine prices are crazy. I would like to have a Scandic LT , as they are good machines. But for the price, I'll have to stick with my older Tundra's. So , IMO it's high for a 10 year old machine, but whatever you can justify. Your the research guy, you already know that.
For what it's worth, the Kenai section on Craigs list shows a 2001 with 100 miles since rebuild for 2000.00. A Soldotna guy who says he will deliver to Anc., Palmer or Wasilla.

$4000???? aren't they only like $6500-7000 new?????
That is really steep price wise....for a 9 yr old machine.

and rebuilt motors unless guaranteed aren't always the best either..... Nothing is ever the same after they get that hot and lock up.

why would it need a new jack shaft??? did the bearings go out????

Well it's supply and demand in action. The Soldotna Scandic just went away in the last hour. So which one of you Lurkers bought it ?

FT I have one of the new 550 tundras and paid twice that for it. It still seems a bit high for a rebuilt one but they are hard to find sooo. Sorry I can't tell you anything about the one you are looking at other than Alaskan seems to like his

Have friends with them. If you are traveling over tussocks, you will be upside down with that machine. You have to "DRIVE" it, so you will get a workout. If this it the 156" track, it is a good machine, but tippy do to the long body and narrow ski stance. Was just out riding with a guy with one and he had that machine on its side many, many times and he is a good sled driver.

I hear what you are saying Northway. But then I am used to the bravo. Problem is I will most likely be going a lot faster when I tip over. ;0)

I can not say enough good things about my 440 LT! Lots of power, s
ooth ride, narrow stance & good mileage. The price seems high but they do not make anything compareable & they rarely come up forsale (when they do, poof, they are gone! I would offer him $3500, sell that bravo for $2000 & enjoy the season.

I have an 01 with MUCH less miles ( I think 1500) that I'll sell to you for $3k. And I'll ship it out on my dime to Anchortown.

Now there is a deal!

I have a 01 440 LT, 8,500 miles on it now and have not had a single problem with it. If I had money sitting around, I would pick up another because they are going to come harder to find.

$4,000 may not be a real good deal, but it is nearly half the price of a 2010 equivalent skidoo.

Seems pretty high, but it is worth what someone is willing to pay for it. I think you could do better.

They are good for deep snow and pulling. Just gets a bit "tippy" with low snow conditions. You will get a "work" out while driving one on uneven terrain. Good sled though, so worth having as a trapping sled.

Aight, since I've had a few emails on this I might as well post for everyone. Doesn't quite fit in the "Trap shed" but whatever. Anyways:

Got my Skandic 440 LT. Doesn't work for what I do out here in Nome. $3250 (yeah I raised it from the original $3k to cover shipping). includes shipping to Fairbanks or Anch. Snogo, cover, scabbard, and an extra pair of skags.

Notes: no windshield, cracked front bumper as in broke, but no pieces missing, just cracked thru. In pretty good shape, and I think the miles are less than 2k (if anyone cares I'll walk out and find the exact amount).

Not really pushing the sale of it, cause frankly it is my "fun" machine when the snow gets deep out here. But, if it can actually get some use on a trapline then it should (but you'll pay for it).

So at that price and shipping it puts me up at $4000 to St. Mary's. It is in mint conditions. Still not decided but Alaskan's is available.
