My son and I are setting beaver traps today and I was going to set afew cat sets out. I was woundering if I hand up a partridge wing if it would scare a coyote? I was going to make dirthole sets neer the floages and use attractors to get the attention of cats but would also want to catch a yote if it came thrue.

A lot would depend on where you hang the wing (is that legal by the way there?)
If hung directly above trap, yes it would make coyote shy away. If hung ten feet away, no.

I agree with Slim with emphasis on checking your state laws regarding visual baits.

You can also use something like Christmas tree tensile, if a bird wing is illegal...

A big wad of polyfill wired in the middle hung up so it will blow in the breeze works well also...

Old vcr tape, walmart sacks, Christmas balls, a can of sardines popped open and hung up does double duty as a visual and a bait.. all of these will work...

Almost anything that will flutter in the breeze will work... and hang it in the back of the set and it should keep the song dogs out... maybe.... LOL.....

I need to call a warden. I we can use visable atractors but maybe not feathers that can be seen from above.

I think you can use fake fur and have it visable from above. It'll probably call in a couple of crows and ravens though. If you set it about ten or fifteen feet away it'll get em in smelling distance and keep trash out of your traps. Use the feathers around the hole for looks.

I read the laws and it says no exposed bait within 50 yards of the trap. I think I will put up some small peices of tinfoil, like you say 10-15 feet away.

Bait is one thing... Visual Attractors is another...

Use red Christmas Tensile... cut it in about 15 inch lenghts, tie a 12 to 20 inch wire in the center of the tensile... then you can tie the tensile to your backer and move it to where you want it, so it will not hang up...

You can do the same thing with the other attractors I mentioned above...

Old CD's work well also....
