So I put out two dozen 220s last night and I connected with one grinner. I can't get a coon to take the next step. I am in a rocky creek with clay banks. I dig out a good hole and bait it up with salmon and nothing. I hit all my coons so far in 1 1/2s...what the heck...will some one tell me something to try?

It seems most coon will not stick there head in a conni . but will go into a live trap more willing ! I have more luck with foot traps !

I catch most of my coons in 220s.. Are the 220s painted or dyed? maybe they can smell the paint?

I would guess, not many coon going by the buckets. Make sure you are setting where the coon are.

Some days the coon will run, sometimes not a one will move. I trapped Southern Illinois the past couple years for coon, and ran primarily 220's with excellent success. I mainly used trail sets with 220's on a stand, and a dozen or two baited buckets, where safe from domestic's. I've set the traps raw (out of the box), shiny, painted, dyed, reset after a fresh catch...doesn't seem to matter.

Give it a couple days.

I personally love a 1 1/2 just under the water and under a hole with fish or just fish oil. I have never had too much luck with 220s. I tend to stay close to water but I will start to look at trails and drop them in there.
