Man so what's everyones approach to setting footholds for canines in this crap...aside from carrying my own dirt doesn't look like any snow in the near future.

That's good actually. It means less problems in the spring. Wait until you have snow for canines. They aren't even close to prime anyway. My 2 cents

It's not good for the ground here, there's 1-2" cracks here, that means the ground is freezing harder than normal... we had this three years ago and LOTS of people lost their water pipes. We have heat tape on all of ours so no troubles, but I know quite a few that had to replace them.

Well yeah that could be a bad thing but I have found that winters when we get snow before the ground freezes are miserable for winter travel, especially in the tundra.

I gotta agree with White, concentrate on the small critters, by the end of the month we should be good for chasing the fox.

we get that a lot even after the fur primes up. I chop my trap beds with an old hatchet and cover with dry grass it is hard to stabilize a trap but it can be done you can wedge the frozen dirt chips from the bed in places needed to help like under a spring that isn't quite level or sitting still. But like most I don't mess much with fox till late Nov early Dec but can't pass up an easy one if I see it

Ever notice how trappers complain about either too little snow, or too much?

Ever notice that there is never "just the right amount" of snow?!!!

Snowed here last week, about 4 inches at my place. Gone now, but 750 feet and above has snow still.

They are calling for more my way next week, time will tell. Sure was nice having it for a few days though. Good luck on your start up north fellas, I still have to wait until Dec 1.

Today I got up looking out my window. There was probably 11/2" of snow outside covering the ground and all the trees. It was Homer's first real snow. My dad and I had our first snowball fight. I'm happy the snow was late it gave us more time to get ready for winter.
