When trapping edges of fields for canines should the trap or the dirthole be closer to the end of the field? If that makes any sence, its hard to explain.

not sure i know what you mean, you should walk the path in search for sign and set next to the path

Do you mean which way should the hole face? Towards the field or towards the woods?

Which is the correct placement of the dirthole and trap, #1 or #2?

I would go with the #2 picture, unless there is a trail in the woods. I would think that there would be more trails in the fields because it is the path of least resistence for the animal.

Hmmm, I never really thought about this. I let the wind direction dictate which way the dirthole is in relation to the trap.

I try to make sure the dirthole is upwind of the trap and take into account the predominate NIGHT wind direction. If that makes sense.

I like #1 because alot of the time the animals are traveling the transition zone between woods and field. I like the dirthole facing the transition zone for eye appeal as well as scent coming out of hole toward transition zone. Just my opinion.

I don't think #1 or #2 makes the difference because they often circle the set up anyways. More importantly is the completed set location being up wind of the expected animals travel route. IMO

depending on how far apart the corners are and visibility from a road or highway , I would have a trap or two in each corner using number one and building my backing into the corner

looking at some tracks in the snow a few years ago,i noticed that a coyote i had cought circled the trap before commiting to it. The coyote came from the downwind side so for what its worth,i bed all my traps downwind from the lure or dirthole with a good backing.
