I am looking for experience or information from other trappers in Kansas, particularly north central, about fox populations or trapping success. In the last 6 years I have only seen two fox outside of the city limits in Salina, and one of those was in my headlights going down the road. All the other fox I've seen were inside the city limits of Salina, along railroad tracks or creek bottoms. Are there any notable populations of fox outside cities in this part of Kansas or have they all just changed to being a city animal to protect themselves from coyotes? Just wondering about observations from others in the area.

I saw one run through Lindsborg a couple years back. We are starting to get several around here in town and just outside of town. I think we have more than people think. Not meaning high numbers but quite a few.I know a couple people last year that caught some many miles from any town. They tend to hang colser to town here since the coyote population is high.

I'm in the woods a lot in the eastern one-half of the state and don't ever see any. I do see some on the outskirts of towns, highway interchanges, golf courses, etc. I think a pile of country coyotes caused 'em to move to the city.

I see red and grey fox every summer around almost any small town, old grain elevators, the creek that runs through town, or some run down abandoned houses, but not out in the country lol.

Prairie wanderer, Depending on the year I catch 2-10 FX a year as many as 20 all around a couple towns and cities in my area. (not a large #) coyote populations do make a differance even close to town. Gain permission on key spots, travelways going in and out town and you will find family pockets. I try to pick up my fox early because of temps. being milder It is easier on feet for the FX and non target animals (dogs) I only run (off set) 1.75 all mods on them. No big reg. jaw traps and have certin sets I use close to town. I run early in the morning when its dark." Out of site out of mind" and carry a catch all pole you will need it. Good Luck
